I’m Cyndi – a recovering kayaker. I love gear but still own more kayaks than bikes. Usually I’m on the W&OD, MVT, or Custis. Sometimes I get to go other places. Here is what I usually look like:

When on land though this is the more frequent look.

And finally, I’ll see your Fruita and Saguaro National Park, raise you Nepal from last months adventures:

Hi — I’ve got the data for this in my database. If you’d like access, just PM me.

In the meantime, I think this is the right query — and the current top X results:

select A.id athlete_id, A.name as athlete_name, count(R.id) as lunch_rides
from rides R join athletes A on A.id = R.athlete_id
WHERE HOUR(R.start_date) < 14 and HOUR(R.start_date) > 11

Just PMed you. But hmmm … something seems wacky with that data. Karen Smith (ACL) has WAY more lunchtime rides than that. I think she averages something like 4 a week!

A few more pictures from my travels. This batch (as well as the one above from Nepal) are dedicated to Rod. If the cargo biking in DC dries up I know of a few places you may be able to find work!

Fruit cart

School bus

Who knows what.

Other things I’ve seen being hauled by bike in India: large gas canisters, big jugs of water, goats, a 10-12 foot ladder on the shoulders of two riders on different bikes (cornering must have been a challenge), wood cabinets, rugs, wool, and refrigerators.

A short ride through Hannover Germany this morning confirmed that this country just gets bike infrastructure better than we likely ever will.

And the opposite extreme … Nepal, where there is no bike infrastructure but plenty of bikes! Here is a typical set up:

Pretty. Please keep your eyes open for a smaller (i.e. 53ish), similar vintage frame. I’d love to build up something like that!

“I just tripled the length of my normal commute ON PURPOSE and AM THRILLED ABOUT IT”.

Ha, I had that exact thought (except it was doubled not tripled) as I rode down the CCT with the parking lot known as Canal Road on my left this morning!

I’m at 20 miles round trip if I take the direct (i.e. Custis Trail) route between Falls Church (home) and Dupont (work). In is usually 40 minutes(ish) depending on bike, weather, and energy levels. Home is longer for obvious reasons.

A 10 mile commute used to feel like a lot. Now I’m almost always looking for ways to extend it in the morning. Coming MVT makes it 16.7. This morning I tried Chain Bridge to the C&O. So many options, so little time!

I will provide a prize for the person with the most lunch time rides. These will need to be rides that take place between 11am and 2pm. I MIGHT be able to datamine Strava (thanks to a very techi-SO) but if you THINK you are a candidate for this pointless prize please PM me so I have fewer records to sort through.

All that said, I think I know who is winning this one already (acl)!

I also should try these roads in the spring/summer/fall instead of just the dead of winter. Some of the most beautiful scenery can seem kind of bleak when all the trees have lost their leaves.

I’ll be at the Cap2Cap ride this spring, starting at the Richmond end.

Try spring or fall. Summer there can be even hotter and more humid than here. It is my least favorite season!

I’m also doing Cap to Cap but from Williamsburg since we have a place about 2 miles from the start. Maybe we can get a Bike Arlington contingent together.

Drove down to Williamsburg on Saturday because it looked like it was a little warmer down there. Still pretty cold, but had a nice ride. I was following a route I found on ridewithgps, and naturally ran into a bridge that was out way out in the boonies. The barriers on this end of the bridge I could just go around. It was quite a hurdle going over the ones at the other end. Made me realize I’m not cut out for cyclocross:

That is the bridge at the end of Jolly Pond. Linking that loop with Little Creek Reservoir is about my all time favorite ride! Another great ride is to park at the Jamestown visitor center, take the ferry across the James and ride the backroads of Surry County to Smithfield and back. fabulous!

If you ever need ride suggestions around Williamsburg let me know. We spend a lot of time there.
