    Shh …. don’t tell.

Oh, and apologies to all for the rain. I actually cleaned the Viaje on Sunday for the first time in ages and had plans to run around in the dirt on both Monday night and Tuesday morning. Of course it is going deluge.

Guess it’s a good thing I choked off my comment that the pic posted by TwoWheels makes me want to spend the day doing push-ups and pull-ups…

Actually pictures of pro-cyclists usually just make think I need to stop eating and ride insane distances. Even with their ridiculously low body fat percentages, I’m not sure any of them could do a pull-up! As opposed to my other sport ….

I’d like to ride Onion Valley one day too

Ah, Onion Valley Road. Brings back memories — of driving it in a car! I grew up in the Owens Valley not too far from where that road is. We’d drive up that road in the summer seeking to escape the desert heat in the mountains. Driving down is totally scary too!

New Raleigh models coming soon. Perhaps too heavy for serious CX racing, but some nice looking stuff in here

That women’s specific 27.5 hardtail looks appealing ….

Cyndi, that was so much fun! Thanks for organizing it, sharing your always great company and delicious rugula, and coming up with such a terrific idea in the first place. You’ve thought of great locations too! Thanks again for another really enjoyable get-together.

My pleasure! Thanks for coming all. I like the Constitution Gardens location. Maybe we’ll make that the default going forward so everyone knows where to meet. I’ll do my best to arrange another cool(ish), low humidity day in August for us!

Since I would have to ride by Constitution Gardens on my way to the Smithsonian Metro stop, maybe I’ll just plan to be at the Gardens between 12:20 and12:30 and hope for the best.

Consularrider, Cylingfool, Arlingtonrider and anyone else, why don’t you head to the east end of the pond where the marble stairs are. We can all convene there. See you shortly!

Have to follow a hearing scheduled to end at noon, so I may be late. Cyndi, text me the destination if I miss you.

Will do but currently thinking of heading over toward Constitution Gardens unless someone comes up with a better idea. Anyone know where that is?? It is the little lake/duck pond on the Mall near the Vietnam Memorial and next to the reflecting pool. It is shady and off the beaten track. I doubt there will be a wedding going on ….

How true is the sizing compared to, say, Pearl Izumi? Rather, if I fit into medium PI shorts, will I also fit equally snugly into the Performance shorts?

I can’t speak to the men’s sizing but their women’s sizes run big. I wear a medium in Craft, Gore, Sugoi (don’t like any IP shorts) and most other brands. I just picked up the women’s version of these the other day since they were so cheap and sized down to a small.

    Holy headwind Batman!

Ah, the omnipresent NW (or WNW or NNW) wind. Does it ever blow the other direction?

Still there is some lovely weather coming behind that wind so I’ll take it!

When I went to Bikenetics to try out the Dew on the W&OD, I said, “I will probably just take it to the Arlington line, don’t want to keep it out too long” The response “Don’t worry, take it out as long as you want”

That is because they know the longer you ride the less likely you are to actually want to give it back! Jan has been known to say things like “oh, I’ll just order that in your size …. you can see if you like it …. if you don’t like it I’ll sell it to someone else.” And of course that never happens. Don’t ask me how I know …

This forecast is holding and, although Thursday might be a smidge warmer, mid 80s still sounds plenty picnicable to me. Let’s meet on Thursday at 12:15pm at the CABI station closest to the Smithsonian Metro exit Mall side. We’ll gather and then depart for a TBD lunch location. I’ll do my best to find us a spot that doesn’t have a crazy wedding going on this time!

Let me know if you plan on coming and we’ll wait for you. If you get there and we’ve already left quickly post to the forum. I’ll check it and tell you where we are!

Well that certainly was fun! I’ll miss the tour and will now have to figure out how to watch the Vuelta. Oh, and I heart Tejay.

I’m old enough to remember when we just called that a cold front. Last year.

Cold front, polar vortex. Call it what you will. I call it awesome and a good excuse to go for a bike ride and picnic!
