Ooof that had to have been brutal today. The wind felt stabby in my ride today.

I created a Facebook account. I joined the FS group. I posted about hiding the Calvinball. FB deactivated my account for violating their community standards.

Was it because I didn’t add a photo to my profile? Possibly. Was it because Facebook finds FS and Calvinball unsavory? Highly likely.

Gonna have to play Forum Ball instead as soon as Mr. Happy hides the ball.

The line also served the Robinson Terminal which handled newsprint for the Post. I am not sure when the last delivery by rail there was made, but the terminal was put up for sale in 2013.

I was hoping you’d drop into the thread as the only railroad tycoon I know. One of those trucks with train wheels was my thought. If it was that, then it must have been up the line a bit because nothing crossed Slaters.

Now that we are several weeks in, I do not find using Facebook to be better. For one, any posts re: Calvinballs are lost in the posts of other Freezing Saddles stuff. But worse is that hashtags don’t even work for Calvinball, so you have to scroll through all the FB posts anyway.
At least for me, if I use a hashtag like #CB1 it doesn’t show me the most recent post, it shows me the ones FB thinks I want to see, and they are all scrambled chronologically. Here on the forum they are chronological. And CB can be kept on its own thread and not mixed in with everything else FS.
    My two cents.

There is a disturbance in the Calvinball Force. For every evil (Facebook), there must good (Forum). For every darkness (Facebook), there must be light (Forum). A Forum Only Calvinball has appeared on a Northern Virginia trail. The Forum Ball has two rules:

    1. It’s location may never be revealed or discussed on Facebook. Violators of this rule lose 1 million points and must make a $20 donation to Phoenix Bikes, Gearin Up Cycles or the the Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail.
    2. When hiding the Forum Ball, the poster must post a picture and also create a quatrain of poetry to describe it’s location.

    Calvinball on Facebook,
    is pretty hard.

223.4 this morning. My weight tends to fluctuate by 2-3 pounds but still maintaining a downward trend.

I sometimes miss eating a whole pint of ice cream.

I’ve seen a few instances of trail users yelling at e-bike riders because they are riding an e-bike. Each time the e-bike rider was riding safely and respectfully. I don’t get it.

The Friends of Mount Vernon Trail did some surveying in the trail about e-bikes a while back and we had a couple of very aggressive anti e-bike respondents. These were offset by wonderful stories about mom’s being able to haul their kids or people undergoing chemo being able to ride because of e-bikes.

The House version of the bill has passed out of the Senate Transportation committee. It will have a second reading on Monday and a final reading, debate and vote on Tuesday. It is still very helpful to contact your senator and them to support especially if your senator is Saslaw who still looks to be a no vote.

The MVT from the airport to 4MR and the trail towards Shirlington are completely rideable and almost entirely clear pavement. I suspect most of the trail network is the same.

Except for bridges. Bridges may require walking, depending on your level of comfort.

MVT from 4MR to Old Town is mostly clear except for the bridges which are iced. Not too slippery to walk on but I wouldn’t personally ride it without my fat mountain bike tires.

NPS doesn’t pre-treat or clear the Mt. Vernon Trail, so I suspect it’s going to be a mess tomorrow unless you have studded tires.

After a day the MVT usually gets tough to ride because the footsteps and tire tracks refreeze and make for a rough and icy surface. My contact indicated that they plan to clear through LBJ Memorial Grove to the 14th St Bridge again this year but not sure if they’ve done it yet.

When the snow does start melting off some of the bridges remain treacherous for a bit. I usually walk them.

At 226.8 this morning. Still keeping up with MyFitnessPal and walking more. Added some yoga 2-3 times a week and trying to take evening volunteer type meetings while pedaling on the trainer.

I need three more volunteers for tomorrow for some Mount Vernon Trail edging. We will be attempting to fix two places where ice sheets form that have caused multiple crashes this winter.

There’s another meeting this Thursday on the new Shirlington Road bike/ped bridge.

    From the e-mails:
“The County is planning maintenance and upgrades to the Shirlington Road Bridge, located along Shirlington Road between Arlington Mill Drive and Four Mile Run Drive. This project also will add a pedestrian and bicycle facility to the west of the existing structure.

Join the project team for a virtual meeting on Thursday, Jan. 28 from 6:30 to 7:30 pm to learn more about the project, hear how feedback helped refine the current design and ask questions about the project.”
