CALVINBALL 2021: The Rise of SkyHobbes!Calvinball is a hot-potato cycling game that celebrates creativity and stoopidity, like Burning Man or politicians. The rules are made up and the points don’t matter. There is no winning Calvinball. There is creativity and inclusion.
The game shall be played on the FS FB page. There shall be a post on FS FB page foretelling the location of the Calvinball.
Obey ye these rules but three (these be the only fixed rules to Calvinball).
(1) Find the Calvinball while cycling. Post on THAT thread for THAT hide on the FS FB page ASAP that the ball has been found (so others waste not time gazing for it)
(2) Hide the Calvinball while cycling within 36 hours ⏱️, an easy enough find that even a can find it
(4, NO THREE!) Make a NEW post for the new hide on the FS FB page that includes a clear description of how the Calvinball can easily be found . Use the hashtag #calvinball
Points and new convoluted rules seem too flustergutted for 2020. We need a game that even the peasant Dennis could comprehend.
Heed not my warning and be tossed to the Bunny! Calvinball is a competition of creativity, not number of finds. The winners are those who make us laugh If the game delights the elves, there shall be a final round of hides with fabulous prizes for the winners.
Wait! You said there would be no winners!
No I didnt.
Yes. Yes you did. In the paragraph abaaarrrrrggghhhh
Sorry. The typist has been sacked.
Hog-balls will be cursed If you have lots of finds, please wait before going after a hide. Think about hiding the ball so that new players can join.
Calvinball is a hot-potato game, not a hide-and-seek game. The goal is to keep the ball moving, not make it hard to find. Please state CLEARLY how to find the Calvinball.
Hide the ball generally amongst the cycling trails around DCNOVA. Avoid federal land. Avoid anything that might scare people who dont know the game (dont hide the ball where it might be confused for a bomb – yeah… this happens all the time with geocaching).☠️
Also – as funny as it is – please do not hide hard liquor in the Calvinball. It was funny. But it could also go very very wrong.
Participants please consider donating to either Phoenix Bikes or Gearin Up.
I am Tim the Enchanter , I have spoken.

ParticipantYESSSS! I’m so looking forward to Calvinball that I’m willing to get back on FB!

ParticipantWe did a pre season experiment. It seemed A LOT easier to track where the calvinball was using FB. Each post is a unique hide and floats to the top.

I’m in for the YESSSS! re Calvinball; not so much re: Facebook, which I’m not very good at and mostly try to avoid.

Hi. I have a question about the things in the CB. Do I own them and fill the bottle with the new stuff for the next player/finder or hide the CB in the same condition as I found it? Thanks!

Not totally sure I understand the question but
The Calvinballs are currently two pink Bikenetic Water Bottles (CB1; CB2). (probably need to make one more different as its a bit confusing which is which)
But Calvinball is a crowdsourced game that changes (right now its pretty minimal but that may change). The Calvinball can be anything. It has been a very very large bell thing that REJI had to drag home. It can be a box. At one point it took on the form of an impossible bike.
People like to hide treasures in Calvinballs. Toys. Candy. Stickers. $100 bills. (it has recommended that we avoid the hard liquor less the calvinball gets found by a muggle) Sort of like geocaching, people will take out a little treasure; people will put in a little treasure.
Right now there are two Calvinballs. Sometimes there are more. Sometimes there are fewer.
Calvinball is taking place on the FS FB page. It has been FAR EASIER to track where the latest hides are. Each hide is a new post. When the Calvinball is found, the Freezer posts that the ball has been found so that people can be disappointed (not waste time looking for it).

ParticipantWhy did you exclude MD from this game? FS is for the DMV, not just DC and NOVA.

MD is not excluded, nor is DC. Tim the Enchanter lives on this side of the river so the first placements have been over here in VA. But anyone can come get them. And there’s nothing that says they won’t be carried over across the River. They regularly cross jurisdictional boundaries. It’s only limited by those who choose to participate.

ParticipantCalvinball reminders:
When you find a Calvinball, please post a comment to that hide’s threat clearly stating that you have found it. It really sucks to go on a pointless journey to find that which cannot be found
Remember that Calvinball is a Hot Potato Game, not a Hide-and-Seek game. The goal is to keep the ball moving and to be inclusive, allowing many pilgrims to play. State clearly (but certainly cleverly) where the ball is disposed. If your description is opaque (if people respond “I have no idea where that is”), the Dark Knight will visit you and whop you over the head with a chicken.
Hog-balls will be forced to watch those dreadful hogwarts movies over and over again.

ParticipantNow that we are several weeks in, I do not find using Facebook to be better. For one, any posts re: Calvinballs are lost in the posts of other Freezing Saddles stuff. But worse is that hashtags don’t even work for Calvinball, so you have to scroll through all the FB posts anyway.
At least for me, if I use a hashtag like #CB1 it doesn’t show me the most recent post, it shows me the ones FB thinks I want to see, and they are all scrambled chronologically. Here on the forum they are chronological. And CB can be kept on its own thread and not mixed in with everything else FS.
My two cents.January 30, 2021 at 11:52 pm #1110617Mtansill

My two cents.I agree with SteveO. It’s hard to track on FB and I have mostly given up.
On the other hand, most of the CBs have been in DC and VA recently, and that’s just not normally in my range during the week anyway.
On the third hand, I don’t use Tapatalk, so posting finds and new hides to FB is WAY easier than trying to use the forum on my phone.
So to me it’s a toss-up. But that’s what I’m finding so far.
