What? No anti-change curmudgeons in here yet? Let me be the first.

I like the zipper pulls. They’re fairly distinctive, and a good way to start up conversations about biking with skiers who think they’re lift tickets or whatever.

And giving away extras to non-participants? This is blasphemy.

Our balcony may be an option, especially if we have a tarp out there to protect the bikes from the elements.

Check the rules at the apartment – many places don’t allow storage on the balconies.

Thanks for posting. He was my Freezing Saddles teammate in 2017 and I helped him with data for numerous pointless prizes. I met him at numerous bikey events. He was an easily likable guy and he will be missed.

I seriously doubt Mayor Bowser’s resolve to actually follow through on any of this stuff that might actually inconvenience drivers.

ADOPTING Vision Zero is easy – DC did it! But actually implementing policies that get us moving in the general direction is REALLY REALLY HARD. I mean, I assume it is, I can’t say for sure because I don’t think DC has actually tried. We have a lot of Twitter hashtags, though

On the bright side, your Bike Karma Meter is full for the foreseeable future

Ooooh did you ever tell your daughter about your disagreement & all the good reasons for it? Your opinion will matter to her a lot.

We talk to the kids a lot about health and body image. The older one is tall and lean, the younger one is stockier – not fat, just the way she’s built. It’s definitely something we’re conscious of, and we try to talk about how both of them exercise a lot and eat well.

All this to say I think NovaEBike should be BmiSux from now on

I might be especially touchy about BMI because a stupid pediatrician, in front of my then 5 year old daughter, told me that her BMI was high and she should watch what she ate. She was 90th percentile height and she has a solid athletic build. I still regret not saying anything then – I think I was too shocked for it even to sink in how many ways the doctor was wrong.

Anyway, BMI at the individual level is bullhonkey. Doctors should find another way to talk to patients.

Because not that many people are tall enough for the inaccuracy to make much difference, esp compared to the fuzziness as to exactly at what point on the BMI (or modified BMI) scale health problems really kick in, I guess? But never having gone to the doctor as a tall person, its difficult for me to say how doctors communicate these issues with tall people. :)

It’s even stupid for short people. Let’s say you’re 5’2″ and in decent shape – your BMI reads normal. You start training for triathlons and replace 5 pounds of fat with 15 pounds of muscle. Per BMI, you are now less healthy.

So why then do Doctors keep applying it to individuals?

Laziness, probably. Addiction to computer readouts.

BMI is meant to measure a population, not individuals. According to BMI, for example, LeBron James is overweight.

I would change it to something more meaningful to you personally. More than half the people here are NOVA cyclists. Name yourself after your childhood cat, or a word from a random dictionary page (I mean, assuming you still have a paper dictionary somewhere). I’m a fan of first initial-last name, but I realize that’s not for everyone.

It’s actually two teams, and while Dew Drop is pretty kid friendly, I think 30 7-10 year old girls with soccer balls is probably a bit much.
