As such, both Maryland AND Virginia are considered the wrong side of the river.

If the weather cooperates, I’ll be there.
You mean if we get a foot of snow the day before and freezing rain on the way over?

ParticipantYou know, now that i think about it, it may actually be 3,000 miles on this cassette. But I didn’t have any problems before I replaced the chain and cleaned the cassette, so I figured it was something I hadn’t gotten quite dialed in yet.

ParticipantMost of my changes to behavior from BAFS happened years ago and are now just a part of my life, but I do make some changes. I’ll take the long way after dropping my daughter at school sometimes, or the long way to pick her up. We’ll definitely ride to some breweries, although I don’t know that we’ll be at the top of the list this year. I’ll be less inclined to drive to pick her up in the afternoon (Morning drop in the car is awful, we basically never do that, but afternoon pickup is fine). I’ll make an effort to do some weekend rides for fun (I’ve only done one since I got back on my bike after the Achilles tear – this is partly because my fitness level isn’t where it was before, but that’s not the whole reason).

ParticipantAnd please note that simply posting “I’m in!” to some random forum thread does not actually register you to play.

ParticipantFinally got around to taking a (short) ride – I’d been putting it off because I replaced the brake cable for the new brake so I need new bar tape and I haven’t gotten around to actually getting it and on and on.
Anyway, is it normal for the Modolo pads to squeak like I’m torturing a small woodland creature? Is that just because they’re new? Should I put regular pads on instead?

What if I get my grandkids to push the bike when the snow is so high as to stop it from moving? Do I get #kidical points, #withkid points, or reported to Child Protective Services?
All of the above

Hey everyone, I’m Brian. This will be my third year doing BAFS, have had a blast the previous two years participating in this challenge. I’m in suburban MD and do a fair bit of riding in the dark, either night or early mornings. The neighbors and wife think I’m crazy, but absolutely love this. I’ll be at the opening HH in January and hope to meet more of you this year.
Little known fact – if at some point during BAFS you are NOT called crazy by a friend or loved one, we dock your points by 50%.

Hi I’m a newbie is this how this works?
No, it works by following the instructions in the general info thread.

ParticipantI’m Jon. I bike with my kids a lot, and I bike to get beer a lot. My first Freezing Saddles was I think 2014 and my last was cut short in early March by a torn Achilles. I handle a lot of the special leaderboards at the BAFS website for people’s pointless prizes.
Also I have the BAFS database credentials. Bribes ARE accepted.

ParticipantNo, this thread explains how to join.

ParticipantAren’t those illegal in DC? Not that any police officer would know the law, but just so YOU know before installing one.

ParticipantSo a few years back they were calling for a pretty big snow starting at 4 or 5AM. The night before, I met another participant at 12:01AM at the nearest Bikeshare station. We rode 2 crappy miles in the beginning of a sticky wet snow then went to bed. Is this the sort of thing you’re looking for?

A system so complicated that various smart peoples come to different numerical conclusions. Only around DC could this be. Glad I’m just here to ride my biek.
But that’s why we let the computer calculate the points. Python is better at math than chuxtr
