I’ve seen ads for one somewhere recently.

Aren’t those illegal in DC? Not that any police officer would know the law, but just so YOU know before installing one.

I have a couple of friends with the Loud Horn. http://loudbicycle.com

They are indeed loud. Sound just like a car horn to me.

I had a Hornit on my commuter.

Worked pretty well but it failed in under six months.

Because more honking is going to get the attention of cars??

I yell pretty damn loud, and it’s saved me more than once. If others feel they can’t yell as loudly, then they may need more than a bell.

In my opinion, bike horns–unless it’s akin to a Nathan five-chime locomotive air horn–are all but useless with other vehicles, and just adds to the cacophony. For pedestrians and other cyclists, my “outdoor” voice works pretty well.

I was recently biking down Wilson blvd in Arlington, and a car turned directly into the bike lane in front of my group. A group member used their loud horn (http://loudbicycle.com/), which caused the car to immediately stop their right turn, and swerve out of the bike lane, letting the group pass safely in the bike lane. Honestly, without that horn there is a good chance at least one of us would have made impact with that car.

I don’t have the handlebar space for one, but I after seeing that, and hearing how much it sounds like a car horn, I fully support their use in urban settings.
