If you want to see the jersey in action or just feel warmer, here’s a vid I made a couple of years ago at one of our summer picnics. It has at least a handful of Bike Arlington regulars. See if you can find any

The Trader Joe on Wisconsin near the Naval Observatory has a mural in the style of their flyers. Hard to miss that big wheel bike when you are going south!
There’s a fun wormhole with offroad elements over there too! I can’t claim it, but I’ll describe it for someone local who can snag it.
I’ve usually just used it to head west from the Dupont/Kalorama area to Glover Park. Head west uphill on Whitehaven St NW (by the Italian Embassy), and please don’t steal my KOM. Hop onto the trail at the top, bear right and go towards the Naval Observatory, the hug the fence there. I suggest not loitering in the vicinity. Head downhill, watch out for some roots, and then you’ll pop out behind the TJ’s. Climb up to Wisconsin Ave and you’re all set!
(apologies Boomer for the threadjacking)

Damn, rumipumi and CBGanimal also had the sundial idea. What’s more stationary than something with no moving parts?

I went for a depiction of Rosa Parks herself (along with a number of other civil rights icons — it looks to be one of the Selma to Montgomery marches). The mural is by Eric Okdeh and “Men at SCI Graterford” (which was a state prison that has since closed).

Seems I misinterpreted this rule, since you only awarded me 0.25 for the Mercedes. I’m guessing that was because I posted two photos, one of which I considered an upgrade to the other. By “upgrade” you meant something different than I thought you did. Submitting an appeal.

Out of curiosity, are all these street names known to be related to these Civil War people, or is it just a hopeful assumption? Names like Monitor and Merrimack are obvious, but I’d always assumed that ones like Truman or Jackson were named after presidents. While trying to figure out some of these name origins, I did learn about the great Arlington street renaming of 1932, and how a County committee created a unifying naming scheme for the county’s formerly ragtag, disparate streets.

I saw so many dogs outside during my brief ride. I went to the local dog park for maximum dog in one shot, however.

That’s awesome! Did you ghost-ride bike #1 back home, or trade it in or what?

I snagged a “Garden” on my quick, snowy ride this evening.

I’ve heard some murmurings of gearing-related bonuses, so of course I did this on my fixed gear (and not because of the road conditions). Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get the word and bike in the same shot, but here’s the bike with the entire sign.January 30, 2021 at 2:03 pm in reply to: Freezing Saddles 2021 – Daily Photo Scavenger Hunt #1110575josh

FDR Skatepark!

Unfortunately, it looks like there aren’t too many skaters out at 8:30am on a Saturday when it’s 25 degrees Fahrenheit. There were two cars parked by it, an Audi and a BMW — I guess skating’s not as punk as it used to be.January 29, 2021 at 2:26 pm in reply to: Freezing Saddles 2021 – Daily Photo Scavenger Hunt #1110498josh

This has been a fun one! I went to the closest dealership, best I could find was red. There weren’t enough cars parked in Center City yet, so I might have to go out to the rich suburbs next. Thanks drevil for getting me out on a bike on what otherwise would’ve been too cold/windy a morning.January 28, 2021 at 1:04 pm in reply to: Freezing Saddles 2021 – Daily Photo Scavenger Hunt #1110427josh

Here’s the Spring Garden Street Tunnel which goes under the Art Museum (it seems ripe for some National Treasure type stuff):
Apparently, the right lane is unused (at least 6 years ago), and I might try and head back down for cooler pictures.
