Ojo del Sol, also called The Fish House by local residents, is a home designed in 1993 by architect Eugene Tssui. The building was constructed between 1994 and 1995 in a residential neighborhood of Berkeley California. The home’s name “Ojo Del Sol”, Spanish for “Eye of the Sun”, originates from the fifteen foot diameter eye-like window that faces south. According to the architect, the structure is based upon the world’s most indestructible living creature, the tardigrade.

Searching for superb owls in Oakland and landed at this superbly awesome shop – Owl & Company Bookstore, they had an Owl reading a book in their logo, a huge owl sitting in the window display, a whole wall of books about owls and lots of owl figurines lining the shelves.

    2/11/23 – Kids on Bikes

I thought for sure we wouldn’t be able to find kids out riding bikes in the dessert on our early morning ride, but found a few playing around in a sports park parking lot!

Benjamin Smith Barton was born Feb 10, 1766. He who wrote the first botanical textbook published in the U.S.- Elements of Botany (1803). He brought together 1,674 specimens of native plants between 1797 and 1807 to form a herbarium that was the largest of the time.

If he went on bike rides, he would probably know what all the plants and flowers are along the trails.

Riding around campus asking students if their name was Henry garnered lots of stares and disses.
A Henry was no where in sight, despite my well-wishes!

    2/2/2023 Ground Hog Day

Ground hogs can excavate a complex, multi-chambered burrow system of tunnels measuring up to 65 -100 feet. When groundhogs burrow, they use their powerful short front legs and claws to loosen soil and rocks. They then move the soil with their mouths to the surface.

If ground hogs could ride bikes, they would probably have more fun and look forward to 6 more weeks of winter.

    1/30/2023 FDR

On June 19, 1934, President Franklin Roosevelt signed Public Law 73-432 establishing a National Archives of the United States Government.

The National Archives can be seen as a symbol of FDR’s commitment to history and learning, which he iterated at the dedication of his library. He said that a nation “must believe in the past. It must believe in the future. It must, above all, believe in the capacity of its own people so to learn from the past that they can gain in judgment in creating their own future.”

Never heard of this Australian based-band Flash in the Pan, but their album cover is perfect for today’s #scavhunt: Headliners released in 1982.
