ParticipantI can understand the frustration, I get that a lot, but it’s aimed at stupid drivers. Anybody on the MUT, you need to be the better person and slow down, take a deep breath, and just keep going. The W&OD is supposed to be a place to relax, not get into a fight.

ParticipantAlex DM 24 rim with sapim straight spokes was built for me, but I think it has a lot to do with my riding style. I sort of feel like if I don’t break something, I’m not having enough fun!

ParticipantiPhone spoke tensioner! Must download now!!!

ParticipantLet me clarify, it’s not the butted spokes that are breaking, it’s the straight ones. As they break, I’m replacing them with the sapim butted spokes. And they aren’t breaking in the same place, some break at the nipple end and some at the rim.
Edit, I mean hub not rim.jnva
ParticipantHozn, you are probably right about the tension imbalance. I should probably pay more attention to that.

ParticipantI bought a set of sapim “strong” single butted, 2.0/2.3.
$1.65 at wheel builder.com

ParticipantI’ve been using sapim single butted spokes. The only time they break is if I hit a pot hole with all my weight. The last time it happened was when I hit the bump at the beginning of key bridge on the Rosslyn side. I could hear the spokes popping! I’m just more careful now until I get a rear suspension.

Participanthere are my 2013 mileage statistics. This is all commuting miles on my electric bike.
I took a photo last year of my odometer:
And here is this years photo:
so, total of 5,868 miles and 368 battery recharges. I charge twice per day for each leg of my commute, so that is about 184 round trips to work. I think i drove about 5 or 6 times, and worked from home the rest of the time.
Biggest problem with my bike is spokes breaking on the motor wheel. After a few times it’s pretty easy to repair now and i learn to avoid large bumps and pot holes.
No major problems with the battery so far, other than the connectors needed to be changed since i disconnect and reconnect so often to charge. I am pretty happy overall, and my commute is awesome now.

ParticipantBetween hunter mill and vienna, the only thing you’re in danger if hitting is deer. Dang it, why does my iphone always autocorrect “of” to “if”???

ParticipantI almost always stop for red lights, mostly out of respect for the law. take this video for instance, from my commute yesterday through georgetown. Police right there, but another biker runs the red light. He was not being unsafe, and to be honest I felt like a sitting duck waiting at that light in the middle of the street. Use your best judgement and be safe…

Again, my sole intent was to increase awareness. I do not know this man at all, nor do I wish him any harm. I just don’t want anyone else bit.
So the dog bit you, and you admitted assaulting the owner. Something just doesn’t add up. Since your wound is healing up nicely, and the dogs don’t have rabies (10 day quarantine?) then Im not too worried about his dogs. I’ve had way more bad interactions with people than dogs on the trail. Most people are nice, though.
