Is it Alejandra? Also, I’m going to Le Caprice on 14th Street tomorrow at 11 with another bike friend if anyone else wants to join for some coffeeneuring and hopefully a little riding before the weather gets too bad!

Freezing Saddles Gremlins! When I’ve been kicked off the leaderboard before I had to login on the FS web site to re-authorize it to view my Strava account to get it to work again.

Nice to meet you last night, Andrew. Thanks for captaining this crew! I didn’t spot anyone else from the team last night, so sorry if I missed you. I hope to meet everyone else over the course of the winter! I’m Jon Levine and this is my 5th year of Freezing Saddles. My team name suggestions are either Orange Seal Team 6 or Sealant Team 6. I prefer riding off-pavement, so I usually have tubeless sealant on my mind. And my hands, and my clothes, and the floor of my basement.

I would also point out that the concept of a sleaze ride has gotten a bit mangled this year. In prior years, riding one mile got you 11 points, but each subsequent mile was only 1 point. This year, riding one mile gets you twenty points, the second mile gets you 9 points, the third 8, etc. Only at 10 and above miles do you get down to 1 point per mile. It will be interesting to see whether people who did those 1.1 mile sleaze rides in past years (because that produced the maximum points per mile) will be motivated to do longer minimum rides this year.

I upped my sleaze minimum. Need to stay solidly mid-pack!

Hi everybody! Looks like I’m off the waitlist and on Team 8! Super excited. This is my first year. I found out about it from a “women who bicycle” Facebook group a couple months ago. I’ve been a weakling since it snowed and been taking the metro after I had to basically walk to work on Tuesday. I’m on a hybrid and am super accident prone so not messing around on ice. But hopefully I’ll be back on the MVT next week. Question about Strava (once I’m added to the “club” on the app) – do you have to manually start tracking your rides or does it automatically log it? I’ve only used Ride Report.

Welcome to the team and to Freezing Saddles! Congratulations on a terrible choice. Only crazy people do this. I’m mostly just kidding. If you can use Strava to track your ride it will automatically upload to Freezing Saddles, provided you’ve followed all the steps to give FS authorization to access your Strava account when you first signed up. If you don’t use Strava then you need to upload the file from the app you use onto Strava if it’s a compatible file type like GPX or TCX. Hope to see you out there!

Yeah, all mine are #withkid. I’m a terrible rule follower. I’ll try to edit them.

There once was a man from Nantucket, who tried to rhyme with the Calvinball but said ā€œFuck it.ā€ The Phoenixball is back out in the wild behind the 9/11 memorial on the W&OD in Falls Church at the intersection of Little Falls Rd. ā€œFreedom and Enduranceā€ could easily describe why I ride bikes. The chocolate rabbits made a mess of my house. I can’t imaging what they’re going to do inside that box. Filthy vermin. New ordinance: 10 points for locating the Calvinball at night, cuz that’s when the freaks come out. 5b77ff6d28795e462c5d1010d31f5505.jpg0bdf321e5a7f34b51b4fbc97bf5197ca.jpg

Hi there Team 18! I am looking forward to riding with you all. David, thanks for taking on the team captain role! The team name suggestion I threw out last night was Team L’chaim. L’chaim means ā€œTo lifeā€ in Hebrew and the number 18 in Jewish numerology signifies L’chaim. And I think all of us doing Freezing Saddles are celebrating life. Plus it’s fun for me to hear non-Hebrew speakers try to pronounce it.

Hello Team 15! Sorry I couldn’t make HH last night. I’m Jon Levine and I’m looking forward to meeting you all, and for some Freezing Saddles fun this winter! Although I will not complain if we have an unseasonably warm winter. šŸ˜Ž

Shortly after learning about this pointless prize just this morning, the black ice got me as I was making a slow, right turn on to Westmoreland St. from Fairfax Dr. It confirmed my intent not to win this prize, and to go back to studs on morning rides.
