Too bad Airborne ran out of the Delta. For $750 this looked like the best deal out there

Between the snow, mud, 23 degrees, chain suck, falling three times and constantly spinning out, I would have to say every inch of it sucked except for the 2″ of delicious cupcakes.
That was an absolute blast that I can’t wait to do again next year.

This is my first time for Freezing Saddles, so I don’t know if this the kind of prize or category you are thinking of,,,,, but if elevation is recorded, I assume it is for it is Strava, I would like to throw this out there as a possible prize for total elevation. It could be added to other prizes that are already given to this category

BTW, this is terribly rare, only 42 in existence and this would be the only one found outside its natural habitat. It is size large only (red dots are not included)

    p.s., cool Chucks not included

Welcome. Sweet bike! My buddy has a Quick and it is a great bike for just about anything.

Does it need instructions on how to find your Strava ID? I know how to find it (log on to strava, click my username, and copy it out of the URL), but that’s probably non-obvious to the uninitiated.

Um, my name is Jason and I am uninitiated.
    couldn’t find it

So when, or how do you sign up for this, or did you already make teams and I just asked something that made everyone collectively say, “Awkward”?

This is only half of the cartoon. The next panel are the parents sitting in front of a computer posting a rant on the board about how an elite tried to kill them with excessive gear shifting and harsh language, which eventually becomes a 12 page thread.

Oh huh :-/ Maybe the DD isn’t going to be the fun I had hoped either then! I suppose anything that takes this long in the saddle is going to feel a little boring (Wilderness 101 felt kinda boring too and certainly had a lot more variation), but I was hoping that DD might be a little more scenic and obviously more elevation. (It sounds like DD is harder too, though certainly I could improve my time greatly on T200, so that isn’t a real requirement.) If Battenkill or Mountains of Misery can be done as a single day outing, perhaps those might make better candidates …

A few others on the board also did it and their experience may have been different, but all four of my group felt the same. However, I’m just an average Joe rider and wasn’t attacking anything, so after a while it became a slow 7 mph grind. It may be different for a climber like yourself. The one hill, Killer Miller was pretty amazing. It pops up in the middle of a farm field and it is absolutely brutal. I had to use every once of my strength to not get off my bike. It is pretty hard to squeeze in a flat in 120m with 16k. If you like climbing, you should do it, and don’t let the whining of this fat guy sway you.

Yeah, I definitely don’t need to do that one again. I am targeting Diabolical Double next year instead. I like hills and such (I say now) and Total200 was a lot of long, straight, flat roads.

Funny, I felt the same way about the diabolical double, a lot of disjointed hills stuck together, essentially hill after hill, with little character, no racing flats to break up the monotony. Although, the hardest thing I ever did by far, it was tedious after a while. I’m skipping it for other fondos with a good mixture. I have the Battenkill and Misery in my sights,,,, last place mind you.
Is the Total actually on the same weekend as the Air Force? I always wanted to do the 200, but the Air Force is my favorite and can’t be missed.

Actually, I’m looking forward to the colder weather with the possibility of rain, because I just picked up a new pair of tires with a more aggressive tread.

Checking out the strava, was that a cyclocross, mountain bike or road bike gravel ride? Looking for gravel road bike rides.
    Thanks

Nice. I tracked myself mowing the lawn earlier this year, but the activity is flagged private. It took me about 90 mins :(

If you reduce your tires from plastic 84mm to 23mm Ksyriums, and push your heart rate to
zone 4 with 1 minute alternating intervals, I think you could get it down to 73 minutes this spring. And that bag, who needs that extra 2,732 grams? Lose it. It is all about goal setting. Rule #5 for that lawn next year!!!!

More to the point, ocassionally I commute on 32mm CX tires and they suck on pavement — feel so sluggish and don’t have great grip. So volume is really just part of it. You want volume with low rolling resistance, etc. I personally can’t imagine using larger than 28mm tires on a commute, but that’s me.

I am in the same category. I ride 28mm for 95% of my commuting, but every once and a while I ride my 32mm and they feel like slugs. I used to run 23mm but they seemed off for a more regular commute.
I know you are not looking for a brand, but I think performance forte pro +’s are great. I have Bontrager hard cases and gatorskinz and the fortes having been been doing excellent. I have a couple thousand on them, a couple fondos that have gravel sections, and I commute on pretty high traffic roads, so glass covered shoulders are often my friend. No flats, except for the one I jinxed myself for tomorrow. They don’t roll as well as my race4, but I do decents fine, and with the threat of a flat practically eliminated, I would have to say, I go faster. For $20 they are an overlooked bargain.
Btw, they go one sale for $15 all the time.
