Same day as the Armed Forces Cycling Classic, but ambitious people should be able to do both.
(I, though, will be going to the Nats/Giants game)It’s also the same day as the Pride Festival, but that starts at noon, so ambitious people should be able to do both of those as well (or even all three…?).

ParticipantOn a related note: A week from tonight, DDOT will present a preliminary proposal for protected bike lanes on Irving St between Michigan Ave and Kenyon, across the north side of the hospitals complex. They apparently also plan to upgrade the existing bike lanes on Park/5th and Warder/7th Streets.
The meeting will be Tuesday, June 12, at 6pm at the Raymond Rec Center, 3725 10th St NW (between Spring and Quincy, just west of Petworth metro). It’d be lovely to have folks who work (or are about to) at the hospitals to come and say how this would help them.

Flooding along MVT/FMR this am. Just a little opp for some off-roading!
Still having trouble keeping MVT and MBT straight. Thought for a moment “I rode the Met Branch last night and it didn’t look anything like that….ooooh.” #NewAroundHere
(in other news, MBT was clean and clear between Rhode Island and M as of last night….)

Participantnot sure if Chrome problem, something local to my setup, or something on the dcbm end, but I’m not actually getting any directions–I can enter addresses and set parameters, and it finds the endpoints, but doesn’t seem to make any attempt to figure out how to get from one to the other, nor do I see any sort of [MAKE IT SO!] button to make it go.
(fwiw, i use uBlock Origin, but it says nothing’s being blocked…)

ParticipantVDOT last month awarded the contract to build the Rosslyn Bike/Ped Improvements, originally designed by Arlington as the Lynn Street Esplanade and Custis Trail Improvements.
Among other things, improvements include wider, ADA-compliant sidewalks and a bike lane on North Lynn from 19th St north to Lee Hwy, and a substantially wider Custis Trail (which is also twice as far from traffic!) between Lynn and Oak St.

Work is to begin later this spring and is expected to be complete in spring 2020.

I was hoping to scale up just a tad from the acorn (see above). While I may lose some trail etiquette points I feel the safety trade-off will make it worthwhile. Drivers can ignore my lights and hand signals but they can’t ignore 500 watts of Midlake shakin’ down Eisenhower.i don’t really ride on trails much, but my Pyle Sound Box Splash ‘marine grade’ bluetooth speaker was great for commuting in oblivious Pittsburgh traffic… Not only does it hold up to weather, it’s also rugged enough it’s survived a couple drops on the pavement.
I got it on woot.com a good three years ago; it was $30 for something that supposedly listed for $145 and at $10/year was well worth it even if it doesn’t survive another summer.

Horse Soldier! Horse Soldier!, by Corb Lund — it’s a Canadian country concept album.
“I Wanna Be in the Cavalry” can get stuck in your head while riding; almost every song on it is good.I love his “Gettin’ Down On The Mountain“.
An excellent vignette of a post-gasoline world for playing in heavy traffic….When the oil stops, everything stops, nothin’ left in the fountain

Can you break the horse, can you light the fire?
What’s that, I beg your pardon?
