A fellow commuter on the way home today who told me about this forum after we rode past the power plant, so I signed up. Just saying hi and happy holidays and I hope everyone got to leave work early today!
I moved here in May and have enjoyed the bike infrastructure. Having moved here from a tiny western town, I was shocked at the sheer volume of people riding on the Mount Vernon Trail! While it can be a little annoying when its super busy, this winter has been great.
See you on the way. Don’t be afraid to say hello or good morning out there.
That was me! Glad to see you joined! You should definitely hit up the coffee clubs. Everybody is so nice and wonderful! Except Judd.

ParticipantWhy don’t you just go buy another Dew? The MSRP of the Dew according to the Kona website is $499. If it works, and you loved it, why not just get another?

This morning on the old Glen Echo line, a camper/hobo came flying across the trail, driving me straight into the scrub. Thankfully it was from the right else I would have gone tumbling down on to Canal Road. I don’t see many people on the trail, but if you take it home, it was alongside the reservoir perimeter fence.
Is the old Glen Echo line the Capital Crescent Trail?

How about if we all just ride the same bike. Then anyone with that bike is a part of FS

ParticipantMine was more or less the same as always EXCEPT for finding proof that there is a monster that lives on or near the Capital Crescent Trail in Georgetown. I found this big carp with a big bite missing from the middle of it laying on the pavement. If it happened in the water, something dragged it up a steep embankment and left it on the trail. Judd and I discussed this via Strava and concluded it is either a chupapesca or Mack the Potomac Bear Monster. Be careful out there! I’m glad whatever took the bite was no longer there when I rode by. Notice foot for scale, I wear a size 43 shoe.

Streetsmarts biked to HDCC this morning, so by Rule 9, she is officially a badass!
As if there was any question! Way to go Streetsmarts! Now she has to sign up for Freezing Saddles. It was lovely out. My toes got a bit tingly and I got some ice chips in my water bottle by the time I got to the end of my ride. It was peaceful though.

Worth pointing out that would be pure anarchy! I’ve placed top 4 the last two years and as a team was DFL! That said they already do a decent job separating the ringers. If anything maybe Rod, Suby, and I can be on a three person team
Also worth noting that we are all humans and none of us have super powers. The top three finishers last year all have children (whom they neglected for three month but that irrelevant). Point is anyone can be a ringer anytime they decided to, if that what you really want to be… besides I may decide I just don’t really want to ride much next year (wink;) wink;))

Why not experiment, add 1.6mm of aluminum foil?
Yeah. This is totally sound advice. What could possibly go wrong? But makes sure you microwave the battery with the foil on top of it to fuse them together to enhance conductivity.

The CCT this morning was easily the most crowded I have ever seen it, and lots of the riders seemed to be first time users. Not quite sure why now, all of a sudden, this is happening.

I ride the CCT northbound out of the city and have been getting very frustrated by the oncoming crowds…mainly because they seem to love riding two abreast and passing even if that means I have to ride to edge of the trail to avoid them. But, selfishly, it’s also because I have to stop behind almost every jogger to wait for an opportunity to pass while 20 oncoming riders pass by. I’m hoping that once the lows regularly get into the 30s this won’t be a problem anymore.
Greetings fellow northbound CCT riders! I have to agree with Crickey, the south bound traffic seemed busier than usual this morning, which is pretty amazing since I’m on it before 6 am. I get to Bethesda around 6:15-6:30.
I also have plenty of frustration with the southies. I cover my light every.damn.time. but so many southies are rocking 1000 lumen spotters and blind the crap out of me and just don’t even bother turning the light aside or partly shielding or pointing it down. I can’t imagine how busy the southbound traffic is when you’re heading up. I like the woman who always thanks me for covering my light yet doesn’t cover hers for a second?

Most likely it would have not been at the front desk, but surrounded with orange biohazard tape where it dropped on the floor.
