I brought a bottle of hooch to a neighbor. Didn’t strava it, but it was fun.
Why can’t I have neighbors like you?????
My ride was decent minus the headwind, and sore legs from my other commutes earlier this week. I was sloooow. I’m glad Freezing Saddles only cares about miles and not speed. Hopefully the wind is still blowing the same direction as this morning when I leave. I wouldn’t mind a free push.

You can join the BikeArlington and/or Bike DC groups. And there may be others I’m not aware of. In Freezing Saddles, you will be required to join the group that is your team.
People who do not want to be followed will change their permissions, so that you can only “Request to Follow.” Then they will need to approve you. If, like me, they do not have that, then you are welcome to follow if you like. I don’t consider that impolite. Just don’t be faster.
I just joined this group. Thanks for the information Steve O. For anyone else not in it, who wants to be in it, the link to the group is http://www.strava.com/clubs/8123
Hahaha, they just let anyone in too!!!!! EVEN ME!!!!
To quote Groucho “I don’t want to belong to any club that will accept people like me as a member”

The wind was delightfully wafting from Blue Plains today.
That’s hilarious. Is your GPS a little off? How did you ride in the water like that?

Yes we should and the first thing on the agenda is to go for a ride!
I had no idea that my wife has a like minded younger sister that lives in the UK. Spot on observations
I like the way you think!

Another alternative would be to use Tapiriik, which will automatically sync data between Endomondo and Strava. For $2/year, synchronization is fully automatic. If you can’t manage that, you can visit tapiriik.com as often as you want to manually trigger a synchronization.
Wow! What a great tool! Thanks for the link. I did download Striver last night which is a Windows phone client that syncs to strava (was tipsy last night and after my post went looking for a solution) Wish I had seen this first.
I have this weird attachment to my Endomondo, it has so many rides and statistics all saved in it, I hate the idea of using a new app.

ParticipantI signed up. See you all on the battlefield. This is going to be fun! I hope I can win the most beers consumed at a happy hour award.
One thing though…I have a windows phone so no strava ap. I will manually enter all my miles in strava, and all my rides are logged in Endomondo. If there is an audit I can simply show my Endomondo data for those who may wonder

ParticipantNobody minds if a forum newbie joins in? I think this will be a great way to keep me going through the winter. Hopefully it’ll also give me a chance to meet some new people.

ParticipantHahaha. I had to watch it twice to see what you were talking about.
My most embarrassing clipless fail happened about a month after I got mine on. I was riding on E. Abingdon in Alexandria, and I saw a biker on the sidewalk off his bike and he was red faced and distressed. Two women were with him (I considered that this might have been what was distressing him) and I rode on for like 50 ft. Then I turned around, rode back to him and I pulled up. I said “Are you all right?” and just as I said it, like on cue, I dropped like a rock on the pavement still clipped in.
Then everyone asked me if I was all right and two more bikers stopped to help me up.
It turns out the distressed rider swallowed a bee and got stung in the throat. The ladies then took him to Buzz for a cold drink.

ParticipantI feel like I just missed a torrential downpour. I hit a few sprinkles in Bethesda leaving work, then when I got down towards the airport it was a mess, looked like it had just poured. I ended up getting wet on my bottom and front wheel spray in my face.
Still was nice, I didn’t pass a soul from the airport to Old Town. Then when I got home it started pouring again. I think I got lucky out there.

Ian – Did you pass me on the MVT just south of Gravelly Point this evening? Me: Purple Bridgestone XO-1 with moustache bars and two panniers. You: Celeste Bianchi with backpack. I figure anyone who announces their pass so politely with a thank you for my acknowledgement and running steady lights must be a forum member.
Sounds like me! I always say thank you after I call my pass and someone politely acknowledges it and lets me by. I’m always very very conscious about calling them too. I’ve had people just yell “LEFT!!!” as they blow by me and I always think there’s a better way to do it. Not just shouting at me when you are directly on my left scaring the hell out of me. Sometimes I give a “Happy Friday!” or yesterday there were a few “happy Thanksgivings!” thrown out there.
I’ll keep an eye out for you KWL!
I’m also going to start messing with people and shouting “On your left gov’nah!” with an awful and poorly spoken English accent so people might think I’m Dickie.

It’s Complicated(tm). Ian’s wife is the Daughter of my Aunt’s Husband’s Brother. I’m not sure the cousin calculators have something for that.
Hi Pete! Yeah, I’m not sure how it works. I just remember you guys shared an Aunt. But from what I see here, people seem to think you are a pretty great guy.

Welcome to the fold! It’s nice to see another Alexandrian (and even Maryland connection) on here. At times the forum can seem as though it really is just about BikeARLINGTON, but there actually is a nice representation across the DMV.
Whether you want it or not, my advice for winter riding – I’m sure you have enough layers of pants, women’s tights (hee hee), and jackets that you can keep your body warm enough. But if you wear cycling cleats I suggest you invest in a pair of neoprene shoe covers. Definitely worth the $40!
I’m shopping for some now. Which ones do you recommend? I already have the toe covers, I was thinking the Pearl Izumi Elite barrier booties. The reviews seemed pretty good.

Pretty Sure I spotted you on Friday’s commute home. Were you heading South on the MVT near Gravely point around 5:00?
Yep, that was me. I saw you too, well I at least recognized the bike from your pic. I was reluctant to yell out “HEY DICKIE!” though, just in case it wasn’t you. It is easy to spot a celeste bianchi though and I don’t see too many of them around. I’ll shout at you next time I see you.

Anyone smart enough to borrow pantyhose and admit it on the forum fits right in. ProTip: stockings/tights are much warmer than pantyhose.
Welcome.
Oh, and my lovely wife disputes the use of the term “borrow.” That would imply she would take them back. She said that they’re mine now, and they will be removed from circulation.

I may or may not just wear her panty hose…..like…whenever.
Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. I should jump in the Freezing Saddles thread and find out how to get in on that. Look forward to meeting you at various rides and happy hours in the future!

Beard? Headed northbound on the MVT near Gravelly Point/14th St Bridge around 0700 this morning?
Pretty sure I saw that bike.Yes, that was me! That’s about my usual time heading north. Were you that guy that flew past me heading in the same direction?
Freezing saddles, huh? I’ll consider it, I’m still pussing out when it gets really frigid out (like on Tuesday).

ParticipantThat’s good to know. Thanks. Sorry for the misinformation, I didn’t know who owned it. Just figured since they were right next to it, they had something to do with it.
