ParticipantIf I remember correctly from the last BAC meeting, one of the reasons that trails could not get cleared effectively, even if the county actually allocated money to clearing trails, was that our plows wouldn’t fit everywhere. Since we discussed having bikes with trailers for doing maintenance work on trails, could this be an affordable solution for snow removal? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=reIHx1ozxYk (I saw it on the ArlNow comments
)
Even if these could be rented like the county’s snow blowers for clearing sidewalks, it could make a difference.

ParticipantTo the driver of the minivan: Thanks for stopping before side swiping me and rolling down your window to apologize for being distracted. Boy, do I know how loud kids can be. If I still looked stressed after we parted, it just took me a second to process that you cared/apologized. Thanks again!

APD is at it again and I’m certainly not going to complain!

What I could not figure out was who the message board was targeting. It said “High Ped Accident Area – Only cross with signal.” Since only pedestrians have a signal, were they encouraging pedestrians to be safer?

ParticipantBe careful riding east on Columbia Pike a bit west of this intersection. There are 2 inch strips cut out of the concrete edges of the furthest right lane.

ParticipantDoes anyone have a good experience with shoe covers and street shoes? I would like to continue biking with my minimalist shoes but they minimally keep away the cold.
I was considering getting these because they have some rubber on the bottom and don’t like they’d get in the way too much. http://www.bikecommuters.com/2012/03/27/review-planet-bikes-blitzen-shoe-covers/

ParticipantI really like my Borealis gloves because they were the first pair that I used that did not give me wrist pain (from being too bulky). Last year, I finally got some silk liners for temps under 35F, so I can use them all the way until spring. I love the fleece on top for snot cleaning purposes as well!
The biggest difficulty that I’ve had with them is drying them out after throwing them in the wash, so make you have an alternate pair, if you can’t take a day off from riding.

ParticipantThanks for the pics. I only realized this weekend that the south side is now completely closed off to pedestrians on the east side of the bridge, making this verrrrrry uneven north side, the only option for pedestrians.

ParticipantThe sidewalk on the north side of the Pike has been very irritating this past year! In order to continue down the pike, you have to turn right a little past the split to 395 on the south side, cross the two lanes of traffic going toward the highway, continue onto the makeshift asphalt sidewalk that has been there for years and gets at least 12″ tall puddles in rainstorms and then continue under the bridge. This has made taking the kids in my family to Dama on foot a bit stressful.
I have noticed that now that they are working towards re-opening the north side sidewalk, the asphalt adjacent to it has gone to ****. I ride on the road from in front of the torn down annex to S. Courthouse and without lights underneath the bridge, it can get VERY tricky.

ParticipantIs there a way for people, who no longer can make it the screening, to post here to give away their tickets?
It occurred to me that this would be a great even to bring my nieces to, ya know now that it’s sold out and all…
Either way, I will be there with or without my nieces but I wouldn’t want those precious seats go to waste.

ParticipantTo the angry man in the red and white jersey this morning:
I am soooo sorry for not squeezing myself between a car that was already angled into the bike lane and the Vamoose bus at a RED LIGHT, so that you could more easily speed down N. Lynn street. Thank you for yelling “you idiots! Learn how to bike!”.
I’ll make sure to stay out of your way the next time that you’re late for work.

ParticipantThanks to the tourist family that decided to have a conversation with another family, while facing the center of the sidewalk leading to the Lincoln Memorial!

Why hadn’t I thought of using 1/3 of the sidewalk just for hand gestures alone? What really made this moment special was the mother’s response to me asking “can you please try to share the sidewalk?” She said “bite me.” I think she may have been a Bart Simpson fangirl.

ParticipantCount me in! Smoked Salmon, here I come.
Unfortunately, bwalsh22204 will not be joining. Apparently work is more important than bikes and beer. What?

ParticipantI think my “I don’t want to go to work” presence was needed today to keep the stragglers there until at least 9 am!

ParticipantI will be riding from Columbia Pike through Ft. Myers to Rosslyn. Would be open to biking the “long way” up Irving and east on Clarendon Blvd!
