ParticipantA bunch of us Marylanders biked down into VA this morning to see the southern stone. We rewarded ourselves with croissants.

ParticipantHey, all.
I’m Christy. This is my fifth time participating in BAFs (over 6 years). Normally my commute accounts for most of my miles, and trips to restaurants/bars/coffee shops/running errands the rest– so we’ll see how this goes. I’d gone down to riding only once or twice a week in 2020, largely with my husband who is new to cycling (and makes me feel speedy). Now I’m trying to get out for ten miles a day, both for BAFS and just to get back into it. I’m also running the New Deal Pointless prize.
When not biking I’m researching or writing (I’m a historian). I live in Hyattsville, Maryland, and mostly bike along the Anacostia trail system (including Sligo and NW Branch), though I also like the DC streets and have been doing a little exploring this year since I don’t have to commute to the same place every day. I’m nursing an injured knee at present, though, so I’ve been sticking to the (less hilly) trails rather than wandering through the city. Hopefully in a few weeks I’ll be back to wandering.
And like Nevada, I love bourbon and food. I love Scotch even more. I’m a tea drinker, though (no coffee).historygeek

ParticipantSince Ricky had us looking for birds, I went to Bladensburg Waterfront Park and took a pic of one of three birds there (with bonus bird flying in the background). I love that so many of these are still around the area after the big public art installation years ago. I don’t see nearly as many donkeys/elephants in DC.

Hawk along the ART. @rumipumi would expect me to look for something cool, but I decided against going all the way to Anacostia Park to look for turkeys.

ParticipantHyattsville has murals all over the place. I’ll have to sneak out and get my favorites, but grabbed a pic of this one (along the Trolley Trail) as I chased a different pointless prize…

1/4/21 – In honor of National Spaghetti Day, take a pic of an Italian restaurant, preferably one you like and/or serves spaghetti. Caveat is that it can’t have “zz” or “Garden” in the name or the sign. Happy hunting!
Also, starting on 1/4 going forward, I’m going to be a hardarse, so please read and follow the rules in the original post. Thanks again for playing
My favorite Italian restaurant is in in Maiori, Italy. Right now all it would take is money, time, and ending the pandemic to convince me to hop on a plane and go eat there right now. Instead, I give you Three Brothers, where my husband and I spent a lot of time with friends back in grad school. Man, now
I’m all sad about not being able to travel. And the buccatini shortage. I think I need to find a local source for good spaghetti with clams. (also, feel free not to count this. I’m pretty sure “pizza” is in very small type on that sign, and I didn’t notice it at the time) historygeek

I C that you use “bar mitts,” too, to accentuate the curved lines. Great artistic interpretation!

I actually thought about taking off the bar mitts to get the curve of the handlebar without them, but decided that was wasting good riding time.

ParticipantNot big and fancy, but I’ve always loved the Trolley Trail signs in PG County.
