1/13/21 – “Liam Hemsworth” Anagram Word (5 or more letters, can’t be handwritten or on/in something portable)
It’s Thor’s brother Liam Hemsworth’s birthday on 1/13.
This one’s complicated, but easier than you think. Read below:
- Find a word using “Liam Hemsworth” as the base for an anagram, then take a picture of the word out there in the wild. It can’t be handwritten OR in/on something portable (book, magazine, energy bar wrapper, etc). Street signs, outdoor ads, or descriptions on plaques are examples of acceptable entries.
- Don’t know what an anagram is? Basically, jumble all the letters in his name and pull out words using just those letters. For example, one word I can pull out after jumbling the letters is “mail” (it’s just 4 letters, so it doesn’t count in this hunt). Now I just ride around and take a picture of the word “mail” on a sign, a post office, etc. I don’t want the visual representation of that word (like a mailbox or an envelope), I want the actual word to be shown in that photo
- For this hunt, the word has to be 5 letters or more.
- The first person to post a picture of the longest word by the end of the day on 1/13 will get 5 extra bonus points. If the post is edited, that will be the time I am considering it posted.
- Remember, just post 1 pic/day (plus follow all the rest of the rules of the game)
Happy hunting!

1/10/21 – Nut
In my research, George Washington Carver may have been born on January 10 (or January 1), 1864, but other sources say he may have been sometime in June also. He’s probably most well known for his work with peanuts, but I thought it would be tough to find “peanut”, so I’m shortening it to “nut”. Happy Hunting!
01/10/2021 — “nut.” A bit of a stretch, but here goes, Nutley Street crossing Arlington Boulevard in Merrifield.

ParticipantI humbly submit some ideas for our team name:
1) Iced Coffee
2) IceCycles
3) Glacial PacelineAlso, I’d opt for a WhatsApp thread over FB for regular contact, but whatever works for most.
Thanks!

ParticipantHi Team! My name’s Harrison. I’m a commuter turned club rider in Burke/Fairfax. I try to ride everyday and love riding in the cold, or the wet (though not crazy about both simultaneously). I’ve got a child doing remote school that occasionally complicates my riding schedule (and enriches my life, makes me proud, yada yada yada).
I love my old steel bike, tedious coffee preparation, and a nice beer after a good ride (usually long after as I tend to ride in the morning) though I can absolutely appreciate a smokey scotch or a not-too-sweet whisky.
@historygeek — I’m not a historian, but I am an archivist/librarian, so a fellow traveler of sorts! My baby
Looking forward to virtually riding with you all! I’ll do my best to pull my weight! I’m hoping to do about 20mi/day, but my baseline goal is to get out everyday for something (Captain’s Orders!).
Happy Riding!

ParticipantAwesome work! I was formerly a regular commuter using that tunnel, amazing to see it full of sunlight! Incredible work on the part of the volunteers and organizers! Thank you!

ParticipantHello out there. My name is Harrison and I am stoked for this year’s Freezing Saddles. I caught the cycling bug commuting year round on the MVT for a few years. I have since moved out to the wild uncharted lands of Central Fairfax and now travel in packs of fellow wanderers for safety as we scour the parkways and boulevards for plump squirrels and dodge distracted cagers.
I am a young and vivacious retrogrouch who thinks his 1981 Shogun 1000 is likely the pinnacle of bicycular achievement and that downtube shifters are an indication of superior character and spiritual enlightenment. It’s definitely NOT that I got lucky buying a used bike and have retroactively justified all of its limitations because it fits so well and I’m stubborn.
Hale and well met!
