I ended up back in DC for the weekend, borrowed a bike *just* to come to pancakes, so come. Eat pancakes.

Sorry for the slow reply guys- I forgot to subscribe to my own thread. I *think* that it’s sold but if they don’t pick it up on Monday I’ll let you know.

Bilsko- I’d bet that your daughter is too tall, my son graduated to a 16″ bike at about that height on his 4th birthday.

Great build! I have that exact same LeMond for my all ’rounder bike.

Hmmm sadly it’s currently in little pieces in my basement… I blame Shawnofthedread, he complimented it last week at FMCC so I decided to give it some love, quickly discovered major frame rust, then a busted spoke, then a toast BB, then toast cables, then ripped a hood, then a pedal fell apart… yeah, it was one of those nights.

Never fear, frame saver has been applied and many (many) parts are on their way! The venerable Purple Stripe Poprad will ride again!

I’m pretty sure that my family thinks I’m crazy- at about 5:30, they charged in the door en-masse, I immediately announced that I MUST SLEAZE and charged out the door. It’s dark, I’m wearing street clothes, road shoes and a BA pant leg cuff and no headlight OR helmet, I run out into the sleet, and very nearly get creamed by a car running a stop sign in my neighborhood. I get home, we and sorta pumped from my brush with Darwin and realize that I only managed .9 miles… so off I go for another loop. 11pts. Booyah. Yea FS! Look out Snowballs, I’m eyeing 8th place!

Are you skiing somewhere fabulous? If so all is forgiven assuming you come back and log some serious miles!

Actually I’m working with a view of fabulous skiing (Whistler). Seriously doubt that I’ll have time to hit the slopes… le sigh.

Dismal showing on my part so far- in Canada and completely bikeless through next Tuesday! (Even if I did have a bike, there is 3′ of snow on the ground- which I suppose wouldn’t be an excuse if I DID have a bike. But I don’t). Not the way I wanted to start out… Sorry guys.

My avatar is a piece of the John Tenniel illustration the accompanied the poem.

I call my children (boys -3 & 5) “the Bandersnai” As the elder one was most seriously a “frumious Bandersnatch” for his first couple of years (but, thankfully, went un-smited by my vorpal sword). Big Lewis Carroll fan, have Jabbewocky framed in their room.

Guy Continental = my “porn name” (in 1992 kid parlance, at least in Arizona, your porn name was your middle name + the street you grew up on)

From what I hear Fountainhead is definitely not a beginner trail anymore. I haven’t ridden the redesigned trail, I am embarrassed to say (since I consider myself more a mountainbiker still … somehow), but it apparently has gotten even more serious than it was.

To clarify (since I may have been the source of this)- the BLACK loop at Fountainhead has definitely gotten quite a bit harder and technical, even in the last few months. Last year(?) they added 3 vertical ramp drops (3′) which are bypassable, now there are a few additional technical sections on the back side which are pretty advanced. The Blue loop and Green loop are still generally non-technical but there are some major climbs.

I’ll third Rosaryville if it’s close- very pretty trails with few technical features.

    C. Create away. You may be the only person riding on a segment from your house to work anyway. You can always make segments private.

And if you are not the only one riding that exact route, you are free to be creeped out.

FWIW, it’s not a horrible idea to put a “privacy zone” of .25 miles or so around your house/workplace so random unsavory folks can’t figure out exactly where you live and exactly when you like to commute (i.e. when your are out of the house)
Profile –> Settings –> Privacy –> Set Privacy Zone

Those are Jones bars I used. Jones Bars are not so crazy nor uncommon, there was a second rider in our race with them. Joe started on a fat bike with them. He did pit and pulled out a normal CX bike after the first lap. CX bikes with narrow tires are so better in such mud, able to cut down and get traction unlike 29ers or fat bikes that tend to float above the more solid soil.

I’m so glad that I clicked your link- I was just a few riders behind you on the chute and the photographer told me to yell:

I recognize that bike (I think that the mud helps)- crazy bars… You started right in front of me in Masters.

Vastly improved over the last few years- owned by the same group as Raleigh, Chinese built, but some nice bikes in the high-end range. I was looking at the CX bikes- they looked like a decent deal for the groups and materials. That said, I think that it’s a lot to ask snobby cyclists to pay high end-dollars ($8500 for a Podium 7) for a brand that is sold at Dick’s Sporting Goods. DB was once a strong brand sold through LBS channels, they “sold out” and went for the big box business only to find that business impossible to maintain. Now they are spending big bucks working their way back into the cycling consciousness…. while still trying to hold on to the high end of the low end business. So, bottom line- if you don’t mind the brand issues, the bikes seem to be a decent value.

    Anyone actually ridden them? ;-)

I’d stick to WOD to the Ice Rink after Wiehle then drop down the singletrack. Not much of a savings to do Hunter Mill and it will be largely uphill.
