I thought last year’s points model was great. But I’m pretty easy to please regardless. Looking forward to 2021. Really looking forward to 2021… -Jeff

I made a trip up there last week to say hi to Laurie, but Jeff was too busy with a work call. I enjoyed my Americano and croissant.

Sorry I missed you! And that work call turned out to be particularly pointless, but oh well…

Now I have to figure out where I put that sticker six weeks ago. ;)

The correct answer is to put the sticker on your bike of course!

But can you bring your own reusable cup in this age of COVID?

I suppose you could have your own cup saved and stored on site. But only for you!

I missed a day on Oct 12 — Canadian Thanksgiving. I had made a vow that the streak was only valid if every day’s ride had a purpose: workout, pleasure, commute, shopping/utility. On the 12th, I had to help with a coffee shop supply run (by car, sadly) in the morning, then go visit my parents in the wilds of VA for Canadian Thanks, then finally got home at about 7pm in a rainy dark drizzle. No ride that day! But that’s still 299/300 days for 2020 so far, not too bad.

Don’t know if this was reported already (since I haven’t been commuting I haven’t been keeping up!), but the small bridge on NE Branch trail near Riverdale Road is now repaired (actually has been repaired for a week or more). They’re ultimately planning to replace the bridge with a longer, higher span less prone to flooding and easier to navigate, but that won’t be until 2021.

I like this year’s scoring system a lot. It is more fun being a captain when there’s such a nice bonus for short- and medium-distance participation, without over incentivizing one-mile rides. This year’s system encourages bike rides to do things, without overincentiving either one-mile rides that are kind of worthless usually, or super long-distance rides, which are unattainable for many.

I think this year is great, despite our being out ridden by the Bollard Blasters and out-participated by the WintryMixters. -Jeff (Team 3)

I think the ultimate individual “winner” of FS2020 is he or she who has the most points per mile AND rides every day.

There’s a nasty cold going around this winter, that’s sure. Spanked me this last week.

Here’s my heatmap for the last 6 or 7 years. Lots of Anacostia River and Tributary trails. Lots of commuting. Occasional road rides in the Beltsville farms and mountain bike rides at Fairland.
