The Crosswalk of Doom at Memorial Circle gains additional notoriety. 2 runners nearly struck during segment taping.

In related news, the Memorial Circle improvements are slated to begin Monday.

“There will be an interruption to ferry service on Tuesday October 13th and Wednesday October 14th between the hours of 9am and 3pm. The ferry will not be accessible during this time while VDOT completes paving on White’s Ferry Rd in Virginia. the Ferry will operate during the hours of 5am to 9am and resume service at 3pm until 11pm that evening. Please plan your day accordingly. “

Before, you could either cut through a gravel parking lot to reconnect to the trail, or use the road and a short, steep connection with a wooden bollard in the middle. Now there’s a nice, straight, paved connection where the gravel parking lot used to be (connection with the wooden bollard remains too).

This was installed several weeks ago.

When I rode through there last Tuesday, traffic cones were down, presumably for this work.
Who’s been there since?
October 14, 2020 at 9:39 pm #1106682ursusParticipantThe W&OD is closed between Little Falls Church Street and Great Falls Church Street. https://twitter.com/WODTrail/status/1316483712838762496
Detour https://twitter.com/WODTrail/status/1316483765473075202. They will try to keep the W&OD open there on weekends as long as possible.October 15, 2020 at 12:06 am #1106683GreenbeltParticipantDon’t know if this was reported already (since I haven’t been commuting I haven’t been keeping up!), but the small bridge on NE Branch trail near Riverdale Road is now repaired (actually has been repaired for a week or more). They’re ultimately planning to replace the bridge with a longer, higher span less prone to flooding and easier to navigate, but that won’t be until 2021.

Lincoln is much wider though also has a good amount of traffic.
I’m wondering why they couldn’t do a mulch path or something similar.

A much calmer, but longer detour would be to go up Little Falls to the Community Center and hang a right on Park; take that to the W&OD at West. Lincoln is ok, but there is more activity. I’ve never liked riding Great Falls. Downside is that Little Falls is a slight climb going that direction.

There are two orange cones blocking the trail at the park connector on the uphill side, but nothing on the downhill after crossing I-495. It’s easy to bybass if you take the park connector before the curve heading up hill.

November 12, 2020 at 7:18 pm #1106771StardusterParticipantFrom Friday of last week- The W&OD bridge over Leesburg Pike is *almost* open. I did have to deal with an annoying detour while they finish up.
This picture? This…route? Gee, what would #dirt do? (P.S. You are loved…)

My hope is that’s a stub out for the missing segment of the W&OD or even a Custis extension.
