ParticipantI’ve only ridden on Independence Ave. to get to Freer/Sackler Galleries for evening films and concerts, coming from N. Capitol St. – mainly to avoid tourists walking on the sidewalk.
Thanks for the informative thread. Too bad not all bus drivers are as nice to cyclists as the ones who drive the Circulator buses on the National Mall.

ParticipantPretty sweet today. Different route than usual – Crystal City by Pentagon, through LBJ Grove to 14th St. Bridge. More here:

ParticipantNice meetup today that turned into a very nice group ride, with a stopover at the Navy-Merchant Marine Memorial, where these pics were taken – 2 by ArlingtonRider and one by myself.
Thank you worktheweb for taking us on this lovely route!

wring it out?
I was half-joking because before SafeTrack Surge #3 I was riding home nonstop. The Halos’ sweat management is just enough for my 1-hr evening ride – no deadly waterfall of sweat right over my eyes, but just enough sweat trickling on the sides to make the end of the ride a bit less comfortable. But I think they’ll serve their purpose of reducing the wear and tear on my tech cycling cap – which is works just as well as either Halo – now that I have a rotation going.
I’ve started stopping though at an exercise station along Potomac Ave/Main Line Trail. That’s a good place to wring out whatever wringable headgear I’m wearing and hang on my bike to dry a bit while I use the exercise station.

ParticipantDamn, I need to get better at figuring out chain issues.
I tried to help a woman who was on the verge of tears trying to fix her chain that got all twisted up, because other people had stopped for me and helped me when I had my own chain problem. Fortunately another guy walked by and figured it out.
I think I sweat too much for both the Halo 2 headband and the Halo skullcap that I bought on sale. In the evening heat they get saturated well before the end of my typically hour long ride. Maybe I should start bringing both Halos, and swap them when one gets saturated.

ParticipantI might ride my Breezer with the trekking bar to the next Crystal City Coffee Club… err.. if i get up early enough… My bike size is in the 54-ish range.
I’m also a regular at the 3rd Thursday monthly happy hours.

The heat, or the negativity flying through the airspace?!? Sometimes I go out of my way to make a good impression on a really mean driver too
We don’t want them to hate us all!
No, just the temperature/humidity.
I saw the driver looking at the two of us lined up behind her car, in her rearview mirror. I’m sure she didn’t appreciate us smiling, chatting and chuckling – despite my “Have a nice day!” to her, but otherwise we both knew it was best to not further engage a driver who had just called all cyclists “dumbasses” – give her some time to cool off or be enraged by another of the many things that aggravates drivers in this city. You’re a long way from Oklahoma, ma’am.
I’ve read before that heat makes motorists irritable. I believe it was in a newspaper article published after a rash of road rage shootings and other incidents.

Participant“That’s a red light you dumbass!”
– Woman driving a car w/ Oklahoma plates. She also yelled something about “you cyclists are all dumb.” I replied “Not all of us. Have a good day!”
Another cyclist and I were pulling up to the side of Oklahoma car at the intersection of Jefferson and 3rd in National Mall when we heard her yell that at the cyclist who blew the red light in front of us. After we all turned left on 3rd, me and the other cyclist pulled up behind Oklahoma car. I admitted to the other cyclist I usually run through those two red lights that exist only to let pedestrians cross 3rd, but I thought I’d humor Oklahoma woman. She replied “Yeah i don’t want to be yelled at either”.
I still enjoyed my morning ride even if the heat was starting to drain me a bit.

ParticipantThanks everyone!
Maybe I’ll pick up hot pink nail polish. Then every time the Renegade is damaged it gets a touch more hot pink.
The one downside of replacing the damaged pink Lizard Skins tape on my Breezer with the Fizik was, well losing the pink. Granted, I prefer the superior grip of the Fizik, especially in rain, but still…

ParticipantI saw more cyclists coming out of the Huntington neighborhood of Alexandria – this morning at least. Granted I’m a late riser compared to many in this forum.
I’m guessing though if the numbers turn out lower, it’s because of summer vacation. I and a bunch of colleagues took time off around 4th of July weekend – both time before and after the actual holiday.

ParticipantSorry about your injury, KLizotte.

ParticipantFirst commute during Safetrack Surge #3 (Yellow Line segment shutdown). I found myself waiting at the Ft. Hunt-Rt 1 stoplight with an unprecedented 3 other cyclists. Wondering if one of them is a forum member.
I’ll take a look at some point if what the rise in numbers might be on the MVT due to Surge #3, though that Arlington bike count website has been a bit buggy.

If they were, they weren’t on the same team. One passed me and receded further and further into the distance.
The other I passed at a different point of my commute. At first I thought it was the same guy then I realized the bike was different.

ParticipantNow that you guys mention it, I saw two guys riding on the MVT yesterday evening in dress shirt, pants, and necktie – one pedaling hard and the other kind of taking it easy.
