To the westbound cyclist on the WOD between Patrick Henry and Ohio around 6:15 this AM – thanks for covering your light as you passed me during my morning run. I don’t think you heard me since we simultaneously thanked each other in passing

ParticipantIf you bike there, you should have your bike gear with you. If you drive, leave your helmet at home.
To some extent biking there will show people concerned about parking at the new facility that their concerns may be over blown.

Any clue how flat or not flat this ride is? I signed up for the long one, but may switch.
If you’re riding a Felt Z85 I think rule V applies*. (*Rule V always applies, but special dispensation may have been granted if you were hauling a Big Dummy or the like). Rule 6 may also be applicable here, but it’s not nearly as fun to invoke.
In all honesty though it’s a family group ride, it can’t be that bad.

ParticipantOhhh. That’s good to know. I’m not late, I’m just on PST.

ParticipantUpdate:
Meeting at Java Shack at 6, then do the loop clockwise, putting us at Gravely Point park just before 6:30. The group will probably split here with some staying to play in the dirt and others going for a civilized cup of coffee.
Hope to you can join us.

ParticipantMeeting at Java Shack at 6, then do the loop counterclockwise (putting us at the W&OD / Custis intersection at ~6:20ish. This gets us to HDCC at 6:45ish, and the group will probably split then with some staying for coffee and some going on.
Hope to you can join us.

ParticipantI rode to Tysons from Arlington for about a year, and on Friday’s I’d ride via Herndon’s FMCC III. So I’m fairly familiar with the east and west approaches to Tysons. In my opinion it’s surprisingly bikeable. It’s really on the last 0.5 to 1 mile of your trip that is a little dicey to ride on the road. Good news is, that Tysons is so pedestrian unfriendly that the sidewalks are empty and work well when you’re not comfortable on the road.
I’m not at all familiar with the North or South approaches to Tysons but I’d be happy to lead a ride from the W&OD at Clark’s Crossing to the Tysons malls and out to the W&OD / Gallow’s intersection (or the reverse of that). That ride involves some riding on quiet and busy roads (w/ and w/out bike lanes), trails, and sidewalks. I think most cyclist who are comfortable riding around cars will find riding in Tysons better than they expect, I know I did.
