This is a odd rule that lots of people miss. It’s 1st or 2nd *place*, 69th *position*. Kind of like goose and geese.

Just noticed the BAFS website got a nomination in the 2015 WABA Bicyclists Choice awards for “Best Use of Biking Data.” Nice work Hans and all the others who helped pull that together!

Fuel – you mean if you didn’t bike you’d sit on your duff and not exercise some other way? If so, let’s factor in healthcare costs, OK?

    Yes and ok.

Your maintenance costs are $0.10/mile, so how does it cost you more than $3.00 for 25 miles?

    Fuel.

The $3 / 25 miles was meant to compare fuel costs. What’s your $/mile only counting food costs?
I’m probably a around $0.15 or $3.75/25miles. That’s just if I get regular grade, if I splug for premium (better for the engine) it could easy be twice that.

All that said, I do think Honz spends more than absolutely necessary for basic transport cycling. Which is kind of like comparing the maintance costs of a Honda and a BMW.

I’m on the verge of buying some Marathon studded tires. My commute is 15 miles, so rolling resistance matters. Will I regret pushing 40mm over 35mm? How much extra stability will the 5mm give me? Will both fit on most cross bikes? (These are going on my MTB for now, but I’m hoping for a +1 in a year or two…:-)

Is there a lower rolling resistance studded tire I’m over looking?

FMCC III at Green Lizard is still alive and well. Although I think attendance tops out around 3 ppl.

TMCC in Vienna’s Cafe Amori is also an option. I hope attendance will pick up again as cold and weary commuters stop in to warm up on there way.

Yes still on for coffee at cafe amori on Saturday, 8 to 9ish. Anyone in Arlington up for a reverse caravan? Leave from the WOD/Custis intersection at 7:30?

It can’t be a very lazy morning for me, I’ve got a puppy to pick up! (Don’t spend too much time w/ Cannon or you could be next)

After 2 yrs of year round cycling this is my only cycling jacket.
    http://blog.centurycycles.com/2013/01/guest-product-review-pearl-izumi-elite.html

Just layer wool or under armor underneath as needed and you’ll be set in any temp. The vents are great and the only real way for a jacket to be breathable.

It is NOT water proof. But as most comments seem to indicate nothing is breathable and waterproof, so you’re getting wet either way. It’s OK in a light mist and I’ve replenished the waterproofing with Nik wax, but don’t expect it to keep you dry in the rain.

It has zip off sleeves that I’ve probably fully unzipped twice. But I do open them up for extra venting pretty regularly.

Plus it comes in my color.

There you have it. There’s a 50/50 chance that random selection of teams last year would have been at least as competitive as the actual teams were. A modified randomization scheme would have performed better in virtually all cases.

I’m have to agree with Cannon’s comment that this analysis has the benifit of hindsight. But we are basically all saying the same thing, we need a handicap, it’s just a matter how how precise it is. Personally I think an estimated # of days and miles is better than a hi/avg/low classification, but I don’t really care. People can sand bag with either.

I like the product of our FMCC discussion – 2 layers of teams, like with the NBC. The first layer is pretty much like last year and teams are locked 1/1. The second layer is a 2 team recruiting tool that pits (DC vs VA, or men vs women, or, disc breaks vs other breaks, whatever). This second layer is open all season and half the competition is in recruiting. The teams are not rebalanced, your team gets to keep whoever you recruit and there points.

IT people is this an option?

Random teams will only work if the team size is big enough to balance the random. I doubt TEN is big enough to do that.

Agreed. Estimated milage/& riding days ftw.
