ParticipantMVT between 4MR and the 14th Street bridge is mostly clear except on the bridges by DCA. The snow is still 6 inches deep and fluffy. It’s never going away!

ParticipantMVT south of the 14th Street bridge and north of 4MR is all ice. The bridges are powdery. Let’s hope the sun does some melting today. These pics from Gravelly Point are representative of conditions this morning.

ParticipantWhat is the construction project on MVT north of the 14th Street bridge and south of Memorial Bridge? They have barges in the water for what looks like a major project that comes right up to the trail. I’m sorry if there is a post about this somewhere else but I couldn’t find it.

ParticipantI’m glad I rode on studded tires today. MVT was mostly clear except for the bridges. This was at about 9:30 this morning.

ParticipantAnyone else notice horse poop all up and down MVT yesterday? I saw a tweet by Alexandria PD yesterday that a religious group on horseback from Texas was making their way through the city. I assume it was them. Does that make it “holy crap”? (I’m sorry)

ParticipantThe path connecting Commonwealth Ave and Route 1. Is it just a coincidence that a car dealership decided that the best place to pile their snow was on a bike/walking path? Perhaps that mountain of ice will be gone by April.

I headed northbound on MVT about to cross the bridge next to the Merchant Marine Memorial. I saw this little path on the right side and thought “okay, I can do this!”
Then, I biked around the first turn and was met with this nightmare. Thank you to whoever began shoveling out a path but perhaps you should have added a sign at the foot of the bridge that read “Abandon all hope, ye who enter here.”

This is the sidewalk next to the 395 on-ramp from East Potomac Park. Looks pretty good, right? I’m zooming right along, and then….

ParticipantMVT is untreated but I had no problems on my hybrid with treads only. It’s all powder.

The MVT was icy tonight. Much worse than in the morning. Especially around the 14 st bridge and along the water towards the bridge.
I went down on black ice.
From the airport to 4mr was okHope worms up enough for tomorrow
Ditto to all of the above. I ate asphalt on some black ice southbound as I approached Gravelly Point at around 5:30 pm. Didn’t even see it coming. As I passed bikers heading the opposite way as me I wanted to shout “Abandon all hope ye who enter here!”
