Sorry about the bike. There’s been a lot of discussions about the efficacy of locks and I sometimes lock up a bike in that area. How was it locked up?
(tried to reply once before so apologies if this is a duplicate)
Unfortunately he was using a cable lock.

ParticipantDo we do positive missed connections on here too too?
I have to give a shout to whoever was yelling ‘happy bike month!’ to everyone right next to the intersection of doom… Down I came, sweaty (overdressed, thus hot) and allergies destroying my nose, when suddenly I hear you and all I can manage is “huh?????”. And when you repeat it, running with your hand stretched for a high five, I can finally bring forth an awkward “Oh thanks you too!”. Well you wouldn’t have wanted to high five me anyway due to the sweaty hands but you deserve a shout for being up early in moderately crappy wet weather wishing everyone a happy bike month, so cheers.

This sounds sketchy to me. There are a lot of things wrong with that flyer. First, it’s clearly biased against this Asian woman, who we are meant to believe is some menace who runs over the necks of innocent women. I mean, I have no idea what happened, she may be 100% at fault, but I can’t imagine it was intentional. If you’re looking for witnesses in a legal proceeding, this seems like a good way to get them prevented from testifying.
Then we have an anonymous-sounding Yahoo account and “connect on Facebook”. It all sounds like the beginning of a phishing scam or something.
Yeah, couldn’t find a legit looking page on FB using their search terms; but a few spam accounts that definitely required quick use of the windows close shortcut…
at least it wasn’t an AOL e-mail?

Hmmm, I’m tempted to stop by the Gtown waterfront one: “On your bike commute home, also visit Malmaison at 3401 K St NW for an afternoon bike from work day celebration from 4 pm to 7 pm with drink and juice specials as well as music.” Sounds like it’s more of just a happy hour though. I totally forgot to stop on way in there, but honestly, I was soggy and ready to just get up the hills to work. Anyone know anything about this one?

this seems to suggest you are correct.ERandall
ParticipantIs that from east falls church?
Somehow I missed that station. But it appears there will be one this afternoon also in the area, but not hosted by WMATA. Oh well.

ParticipantThe roads by the museums are barricaded on the mall. Police camp out right there behind the barricade, but I bike through it anyway. I haven’t been given any trouble yet. Anyone else been given any hassle?

ParticipantThis morning was awesome with the consistent mist but dry roads. Not quite sure about the ride home though.

In theory biking should save me money, and it did at the beginning. At first it saved me $4.50/ day parking at metro. Now it ‘saves’ me parking and fare ($5.65/trip) on the days I ride, except I now own 3 bikes, two front light sets, numerous blinkies, a couple helmets, jerseys, shorts, two sets of SPD pedals, two sets of Look pedals, shoes and cleats, winter riding gear, panniers, locks, etc… Conservatively, I’ve spent all my savings, and then some. Oh, and because I get a transit subsidy, that $5.65/ trip is fictitious, and I only really save the parking fee.
However, my fitness is far better than it was when I started, I weight about 40 Lbs less than I did then, and I feel 10X better. I did a century in Sept, I’ll be running the ATM in Oct. and I’m considering a Tri within the next 2 years (before I turn 50). More than anything, at this point, is the benefit that I have fun cycling, and I ride because I want to.
Also, those are all assets versus a Metro fare which you pay and never see again…
