“Mirroring the after work, bike-commuter social scene, this year’s Bike To Work Day will include five evening “pit stops,” with food, drink and other amusements. According to Douglas Franklin of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, “this year we have expanded the afternoon pit stops from two to [five]! Small number of events but I like the percentage increase!” Official afternoon pit stops are at East Falls Church, Silver Spring, College Park, Columbia Heights and the Georgetown Waterfront. Most afternoon stops open at 4 pm. See http://www.biketoworkmetrodc.org for details.

“The above list only scratches the surface and a complete guide is hard to come by, but the information can be found. Many of these meetings are announced on the Washington Area Bike Forum, bikearlingtonforum.com, a place where witty commentary on one’s daily commute seems to be a way of life. Local Coffee clubs and happy hours are also advertised via Twitter (search for “coffee #bikedc”). Whatever your choice, please have fun and stay safe on the road. Please don’t even think about riding straight from a Thursday happy hour to a Friday coffee club. That’s not why they are set up that way.”

Hmmm, I’m tempted to stop by the Gtown waterfront one: “On your bike commute home, also visit Malmaison at 3401 K St NW for an afternoon bike from work day celebration from 4 pm to 7 pm with drink and juice specials as well as music.” Sounds like it’s more of just a happy hour though. I totally forgot to stop on way in there, but honestly, I was soggy and ready to just get up the hills to work. Anyone know anything about this one?

Does anyone know if any of the evening pit stops will have the Bike Arlington reflective yellow bibs? Also, does anyone know where the East Falls Church pit stop will be this evening (exactly)?

Tri360 should host at the North Van Buren Street access to the W&OD a few blocks west of the EFC Metro station.

Regarding the EFC stop, there’s a map here:

Silver Spring afternoon pit is in the parking lot of the Giant Food. A more soulless and bike unfriendly place in all of SS would be hard to find but it’s all about the people right?

Will the Gtown afternoon pitstop have macaroons (as shown on the Malmaison site)? If so, I’m totally there.

None were offered, but they were there in the pastry display. I thought about getting some, but settled for a beer.
