I’ve already ridden about 10 miles on snowy, icy streets! Do we get a bonus for starting early?

    Hey,
I have a prize to award someone I know will not be at the HH. Should I give it to them later, or give it to the second place person (er, second place in my category I’m awarding for)? Thanks!

Me: In the far left lane on Connecticut, South (?) bound, planning to turn left onto the Duke Ellington Bridge.
You: Seemed to be sneaking up behind me, on a red trek, wearing a black baseball cap and no helmet.
    Me: Worried about collision.
You: Shared the lane, started a conversation, communicated your plans.
Me: Happy to let you pass when we both turned left to the bridge.
Thanks for being safe and respectful!

I’m in. Also gonna RSVP for AverageJo, Jon Green, and Shelby KP. Not sure of their usernames. Uh…

I’ll be there 9/9:30, on a step through hybrid with purple panniers. Hopefully I will be wearing bikey clothes, not work clothes.

Hm…I guess I want to test ride and see what I like. I already load up my hybrid with what feels like several pounds of groceries (how do I know if I’m overloading it?!), but I’m terrible at estimating weight. I am not necessarily looking to do a super-loaded year-long tour, but more like a week long trip up the C&O and back. The first ride I will be doing with this bike is RAGBRAI, which obviously is supported, so I will probably not put a rack/fenders on it until I’m done with RAGBRAI. I also kind of want a porteur rack, maybe, at some point. It’s hard to describe what I want, I wish I could just buy n+1 bikes until I have one for each type of riding I want to do.

    Alternatively, the Vaya.

Also, if you’re interested, you can try my Fargo for size (I’m 5’5″; it’s not easy to find a Fargo on shop floors, for fear that it’s sheer awesomeness would render all other bikes worthless).

That would be great! I have a friend who just bought a Vaya and she is very happy with it, I just know Salsas are hard to find around here! I’ll PM you.

I’m also 5′-6″ and have a 50cm Soma Saga built up as a touring bike. You’re welcome to give it a whirl if you want.

That would be great! I’m DC based (work in NW, live in NE) but can go about anywhere a bike can go. I’ll PM you.

I only fell once (that I recall), on a small icy descent. I hit my head, got road salt all over my boots/pants, and had to get a new helmet (because I hit the ground somewhat hard).

I have to work that night, but only until 9ish, so I’ll be there (late)!

Aww, these are so heartwarming. Boyfriend thinks I’m a little crazy, but knows how much I love biking/BAFS.
