tandems! tandems! tandems! (said in that sing-songy puppies, puppies, puppies! voice) JoM and @drevil, I challenge you to organize a tandem-style ride, I was looking back and saw tandem pointless prize riding happening in 2019 during freezing saddles and after a momentary loss of dignity when I realized that this was not an original idea on my part (seriously, I do know better and have realized that there is no original thought or idea to be had, but as a mere human my own hubris does get the better of me at times and certainly did here with me thinking this pointless prize would be novel.) Oh my, HAVE I DIGRESSED!

I sincerely hope you, JoM and @drevil will want to earn some tandem points!!

Hello shirag! Your points questions required deep stoker thinking on 2 full recent tandem-style rides and poll votes from unsuspecting non-cycling and non-tandeming coffeehouse patrons fully masked and waiting patiently in line for coffee. The general consensus from all is that there is a tremendous lack of consistent tandem-style bicycle riding being witnessed. The math is just not there to cause points calculation issues. That the percentage of tandem-style bicycles as compared to solo bicyclists is very tiny indeed, add to that the subset of the population who is card carrying (or this case neck gaitoring) Freezing Saddles. And THIS MUST CHANGE. What the world needs now is LOVE. Love sweet LOVE. Nothing contributes to World LOVE better than tandem-style bicycling. Regular bicycling in personal therapy to avoid hate and discontent…tandem-style bicycling actually GENERATES LOVE.

and with that in mind, yes, yes and yes. Please notate in your Strava Description how many points you feel you have earned on your Tandem-style ride and yes, the pictures are required as evidentiary proof of points earned proclamation.

These are great points questions, that have caused me profound reflection. Being of generous heart I want to say yes to everything, think of the points that could be compounded, for example, if one were to ride ones tandem to the Alexandria/Arlington Real Deal ride on Saturday Jan 2nd meeting at Shirlington Library at 10am and spot another tandem at said ride! That would be 2 points for each tandem-style team (insert deep thinker emoticon.) Perhaps one of those tandem-style teams is Miss Moneypenny and her jockeys (I mean riders, not undies) with 5 extra bonus points for that tandem-style pic! I must reflect more deeply on this question and I do need more coffee, thank you for posing these interesting points based questions. I fear saying yes portends extensive points calculating that may prove wearisome and fraught with error. One must avoid such trials and tribulations as fun (and copious riding) is the main objective of all things freezing saddles for this Arlingtonian…I will get back to you shirag!

Komorebi, what time do you expect to arrive at The Block?

Chinese New Year is coming up, which sounds to me like a perfect excuse to check out the new Asian food hall (The Block) in north Bethesda.

    When: Sunday, January 26 at 1:00 p.m.

Starting point: Jefferson Drive entrance to the Freer-Sackler Gallery. The Freer-Sackler is doing its sixth annual Lunar Year celebration from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., so get there early if you want to check out the festivities before the ride.

Route: We’ll ride to The Block, where you’ll be able to score #tacoloco or #slurpyride points if you so choose. (Personally, I’ll be going straight for the matcha Oreo ice cream.) We’ll then circle back and finish at the Kennedy Center’s special display of Winter Lanterns. The route is about 34 miles, with a mix of trails and streets and some hills: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/31772102. Social pace, 12-14 mph. If you’d like to do just one leg of the ride, The Block is close to the White Flint metro station.

What to bring: lock, money, Strava, lights, metro card if needed.
