ParticipantI read on the internet (which may mean this is false, because…internet) that the law never grants RoW, but rather defines when RoW must be yielded to another road user. The distinction probably doesn’t affect the present thread much, but I wonder how many potentially fraught traffic interactions would go more smoothly if all road users felt more inclined to yield for everyone’s safety, rather than assert their “right” as a territorial reflex.

I do this also. Banjo Bro panniers hook right onto the sides of the inside of the cart. I use the Scan-it gun & pack my panniers exactly how I want, then pay, walk out, hook ’em on the bike and ride off confident that I haven’t bought more than I can carry.
Me too, except ortliebs. For a long grocery list I bring front and rear panniers. For an even longer list, I bring the trailer.

ParticipantI’m so sorry, Steve. New-bike-day is always a great day, but the emotional cost of losing a faithful steed is a hefty price to pay for it.

Not sure that Great Falls is such a great detour. Lincoln is much wider though also has a good amount of traffic.
I’m wondering why they couldn’t do a mulch path or something similar.
A much calmer, but longer detour would be to go up Little Falls to the Community Center and hang a right on Park; take that to the W&OD at West. Lincoln is ok, but there is more activity. I’ve never liked riding Great Falls. Downside is that Little Falls is a slight climb going that direction.

I have to remember that mantra, and I am glad you reminded me/us of it: “What would DIRT do?” Do you know where that nickname came from?
I don’t know where it came from, but he was Dirt on the forum when the forum was new, and he also had a twitter feed using that moniker. Someone made up some “WWDD?” stickers at some point, if I remember correctly; perfectly sized for a bike frame.

Yeah, I’m feeling the same. Find a way to get some closure of sorts.
I haven’t decided yet whether I want to be on that spot where it happened…
Oddly, I found telling some coworkers about Pete kind of helped me. It’s great material, because he was such a positive influence. They liked hearing about a cyclist who made all those tough interactions with angry drivers and pedestrians about love and understanding. I still don’t know how he did it; it’s the reason I think about him so much when I’m on the bike–what would Dirt do?? This world will be lacking for that going forward.

About half the parts are new, the flashiest being a White Industries freewheel.
Is this the same bike from your freewheel removal thread? How did you solve your spacer problem?

ParticipantYou could go the other way with the spacers: use narrower spacers and aim for 123 mm (or so), so you are gaining some advantage for your freewheel tool, and you can squeeze the frame that couple of mm to make up the difference. I tried a 120 hub in a 125 spaced frame, and found it put the rear wheel slightly out of square with that much frame deflection; in that case I went ahead and opted to have the frame respaced to 120 by the LBS since it’s easy and inexpensive to do that to a steel frame. If your frame is steel, that is another option, then you can just chuck the spacers altogether.

No. But you can set it up that it will change the front or rear derailleur into the most optimal gear for your speed/effort based on gear inches and all that techie stuff. There are lots of ways you can set it up to change gears. I just do the normal up/down front/rear but there are other options.
Unless it has a flux capacitor option, I’m not interested.

ParticipantI suppose for normal people, this limits access to parks. For this crowd…not so much.
