My wife has a Turbo Como. The battery is removable (yay!) if need be. I get the marketing push of “it’s not even a bike” but would rather they phrase it as “it’s not just a bike” as they had done in other ads they’ve shot.

Turbo Como is a nice ebike. I think my beef with the ad is it reinforces this misperception that ebikes aren’t bikes. Sadly this feeds into more consequential stuff, for example this afternoon I looked at the transcript of the August DC BAC Legislative committee meeting. With Vision Zero out of the way the Council are able to reconsider Cllr Cheh’s 2019 proposals to update the District’s regulations around ebikes. Dear Lord, the arguments over whether to allow ebikes on street bicycle infrastructure. Ebikes are bikes, they get more people on bikes. Advocating for equitable access to safe bicycle infrastructure and protections from motorists who hide behind the Contributory Negligence law is why I joined WABA. I recognize the official DC BAC position is pro-ebike as shown by their support for the Vulnerable User Collision Recovery Amendment Act of 2019, that bill too was put on ice until after Vision Zero. I would love to see some movement on these necessary updates to ebike regulations in the District.

an actual ad for bicycles during a bicycle race

The Specialized Turbo Vado SL is a bit special, though I wish they made the main battery removable. But that video at the 26″ point the narrator exclaims “it’s not even a bike”. Disagree.

Wet ride home tonight, tree down on the Rock Creek trail by the Kennedy Center under Roosevelt bridge, and another tree is down on the path around the East side of Arlington Cemetery by the bike counter (hope it’s alright). You can walk around them.

The Bicycling review rated the bike very highly, let us know how it performs climbing hills. I’ve read the gen 4 motors are significantly quieter due to the redesign.

    The Gazelle Ultimate T10+

Sweet ride! I read Bosch are rolling out a firmware update to increase torque on certain Bosch gen 4 motors from 75 to 85nm. EBR says your ebike has the Performance Speed MY20 motor, the Bosch press release mentions Performance Speed MY21 motors get the upgrade but also says “Performance Speed drive units cannot be retrofitted”. Might be worth checking with the dealer what the score is. Regardless I love Gazelle’s step-through ebikes and yours looks more capable than the EasyFlow I test rode for a month a couple of summers back.

Roosevelt bridge side path is getting narrower, eek! The short straight before/after the path curves down to Roosevelt Island is currently half blocked by encroaching tree/poison ivy/kudzu/greenery. To whom should I report the problem and ask to chop back the vegetation, DDOT? NPS?

Ah, that explains the barrier across the stairs, I was wondering.

First day back at the Library, super quiet on the roads at 8am, no changes on my route except these walk signs appeared at the entrances to the Kennedy Center plaza, so much for being a bike bridge.
