18T cog is on the bike. An initial ride up the very steep hill that is my street indicates the new gearing is much easier. Going to try my commute in for the late shift shortly: I have a feeling 18T may be too low in the long run.

Try 41st St, anything else on the ride is easier than that.

Three of us did the ride on fixed gear last Saturday, it’s a good route and great training for Kill Bill. The ride is billed as no-drop and there was a sweep, but there was a big gap between the lead and sweep so riders in the middle could easily get lost. I had the route on Garmin, otherwise I think you need to keep the lead group in sight or ride with someone who knows the route. Our gear ratios:

    • 48×17 (74 gi)
    • 46×17 (71 gi) – me
    • 46×18 (67 gi)

74 gi had to walk twice at the two streets that Marc, Will & Shawn warned us about – N. Quebec (steep) and Rock Spring (longer slog with steep ending). The ride .gpx file says it’s 1,600 ft of elevation, but our Strava data recorded just over 2,000 ft over 22 miles.

If you’re fixed on this ride I don’t think it’s the downhills you should worry about, my $0.02.

How do you think the group would react if someone were to show up on a cabi?

Is this still on? My legs are beaten up but if I skip N Quebec St I might be able to do the ride without walking.

OneEighth had to cancel but I’m still going fixed with our Bikenetic teammate Peter T.
Teammate Miriam might join w/ gears and Paula too. You should definitely come now that Cranky Monkey has been cancelled.

Tri360 hills ride this Saturday fixed. http://www.tri360.com/about/group-rides-pg76.htm

1/8 is my huckleberry, anyone else?

btw the website says they may not ride if it’s less than 30 degrees, let’s do it even if they cancel.

Agree with the others about starting with the bike you have, get a good messenger bag or backpack. You’ll figure out what you want to change as you commute more.

Also agree that combination drive / ride commutes are a great way to start, that’s what I did for a few years and added miles as I got into it more. You may want to check if there are any parking restrictions where you plan to start.

    Good luck.

Goddamnit.. I totally thought it was Friday, and that the 200K I’m planning on Friday IN THE SNOW would count as well.

Well thanks for correcting me. I’d really be annoyed if I showed up at HP alone. I will most likely not be there now. Enjoy!

Didn’t you show up to kill bill one day early last year?
