Participant2/21/21 – the round Peace symbol or the word “peace” (in any language)
Since the Peace Memorial at the Capitol is now barricaded, I headed to the other end of the Mall to visit the Institute of Peace

Participant2/20/21 – Overhead Picture from “Such Great Heights”
The Taft Bridge takes Connecticut Avenue over Rock Creek at a maximum height of 130 feet and has a tremendous vista of the park below. Today, with a combination of cold, wind, and poorly plowed trail, there were few trail users. I waited about ten minutes before a lone cyclist appeared.

Well, Pluto, of course, is no longer a planet.
It’s considered a dwarf planet

Participant2/19/21 – Planet(s) – likeness or word
The American Geophysical Union Building has a representation of the solar system embedded in the sidewalk. It shows the planets and their relative orbits, including Pluto’s eccentric path. The picture shows Pluto dipping inside Neptune’s orbit

Josh, it looks like it needs to be specific to one of our 9 (including Pluto as one) planets and drevil wants the photographer to name the planet he/she is posting. Hope this helps.
The rules were updated to include “Planet”

Participant2/18/21 – Full Electric Car (no Hybrids)
It took scouring the back alleys of DC to find something that wasn’t a Tesla. Which isn’t at all suspicious when taking pictures of cars at 1 am…
My persistence paid off with a Chevy Volt. I also came across a BMW i3, but that picture wasn’t as good. Alas, no bike racks on any of them.
Update: with @josh doing the research showing the Volt isn’t fully electric, that gets disqualified. It also turns out the i3 has an optional gas engine, and since I couldn’t determine if that particular car had the option, I’ll fall back to the picture of a pair of recharging Teslas.

Participant1/17/21 – Bird House or Bird Bath
This was a more interesting challenge since it forced me to slow down to look for a bird house or feeder. I figured all the bird baths would be frozen today. I spotted these two feeders in the tree but no birds. So I loitered for a bit until they came for breakfast.

Participant2/11/21 – Movie Poster
This has been a difficult one in downtown DC. The theater in Georgetown had removed the poster spaces outside the theater, nothing was up at the Gallery Place theaters, and both Atlantic Plumbing and E Street Cinema were completely boarded up. The West End Cinema didn’t have any posters on display outside, but I could spot a few far back in their lobby. I was able to barely get them in the picture.
As for my favorite biking-related movie, I have a abiding love for Breaking Away, especially as it explores the relationship between the father and son. The father doesn’t quite understand him, but supports him and wants a better life for him. One of my favorite scenes is when they are walking through the campus as night: https://youtu.be/qhiqjAAILGg
*Edit*
I went back in the evening and the posters were showing a bit better in the dark.February 10, 2021 at 7:39 pm in reply to: Freezing Saddles 2021 – Daily Photo Scavenger Hunt #1111413DCAKen

These masonry reinforcements are a common site around the city. The anchors are almost always a star.

Participant2/9/21 – Pizza
Adams Morgan is the home to several pizza joints, all hawking varieties of the Jumbo Slice. For a while, there was a fierce competition, with signs proclaiming “Home of the Jumbo Slice” and “The Original Jumbo Slice” and “The Real Jumbo Slice”. All of them were open until 5 am on the weekends to feed the crowds after last call.
The one thing they all had in common was that their deliciousness was inversely proportional to your sobriety.
