ParticipantThank you, Chris!
That is a gap in the network that would benefit from better infrastructure. I signed WABA’s petition and will spread the word.
Before the pandemic, that was part of my daily commute.
Even as a pretty confident cyclist, I regularly found myself pondering life’s big questions about half way through the shenanigans that occur in Sunbelt’s primary area for business operations (aka 8th St NE) – Is 8th St NE really wide enough for that flatbed taking up 80% of the northbound lane, a piece of Sunbelt’s heavy equipment idling near the flatbed, people standing in the street discussing how to load the equipment onto the flatbed, and that SUV whose driver crossed from the northbound lane into the southbound lane (aka my travel lane) to get around the flat bed?
Putting Sunbelt’s commandeering of the road aside, it would be nice to have something there to fill the gap between all of the nearby bike infrastructure.

On a tangential note, I noticed that the last few issues of Bicycling magazine (paper copy) have made a concerted effort to bring some different stories to their publication than their standard. I will say that the last issues featured some really compelling articles and was one of their few I’ve read cover to cover. The reality is that not every cyclist is a Pinarello riding weight weenie that is only interested in UCI races or the best high end gear. I hope Bicycling continues this focus on bringing real, interesting, and diverse articles into their mainstream publication. [reference, the last Bicycling magazine featured an article on a very talented indigenous cyclist who discussed some of the controversy around the ride name]
I agree. I’ve found some of Bicycling’s recent content to be far more interesting.
Alexandera Houchin, who I believe was the cyclist in the article you referenced, recently posted a more detailed opinion on the name “Dirty Kanza” on The Radavist:
More tangential, Peter Flax’s article on Leo Rodgers, and the video that accompanied it, were excellent.

I had the Lowest Lord ESB at Denizens Brewing Company in Riverdale Park. The Lowest Lord is my favorite from Denizens. I like ESBs, and I like this more hop-forward ESB.

ParticipantBrian, thank you for starting the introductions. It was nice meeting you and Adriana at the HH.
I live in Riverdale Park, MD (near Hyattsville and College Park). I get most of my miles from commuting to work in DC. I also enjoy organized and social rides on the weekends.
This will be my third FS. I had a blast the past two years. I look forward to more fun riding with all of you this winter.

Awesome, we’re legit, AND we’re not losing! Thanks to everyone for getting us up and running.
Also, I agree, love the name. We are the Hypothermia Hijackers! Well done, AS.
Hopefully the final two riders will join us. At the HH on Tuesday, I think I heard Chuck say that if players are still MIA after Sunday we can request replacements. Though, it seems there is less interest in BAFS this year.

Since you’re admin, would you mind adding?
Absolutely! Thank you, Brian.

There are not many cameras: https://www.511virginia.org/
That’s what I suspected. DC has a fair number of cameras (http://app.ddot.dc.gov/), but not many appear to be positioned near bike lanes.
