Take a look at sec 406 (Curb Ramps) of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Architectural Barriers Act Accessibility Guidelines

    https://www.ada.gov/regs2010/2010ADAStandards/2010ADAstandards.htm#c4

The slopes of the curb ramps (including the sides) cannot exceed 1:10, so you end up with a trapezoid shaped ramp. Sec 406.6 discusses corner type curb ramps which sort of aim diagonally into the intersection, bisecting the two routes across the roadways.

Look at the top under Project Resources, specifically the Scoping Report and appendices

They still seem to be a bit squishy

My “herd” of police were in a tighter formation as they moved east on Independence, preventing me from crossing to the south on 7th.

Cleaned up two broken Miller High Life bottles on the bridges just north of the Crystal City Connector on the MVT trail on the way back from the DC Ride.

Note to the assholes that broke the bottles – there is beer which is actually better than Miller and is packaged in cans. Please switch!

From the Long Bridge Park website – “Parking is metered Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.”

About as close as Gravelly Point is to DC without the hassle.

    Sweet.

Have you registered for Bike to Work Day? A new bike deserves such an activity.

Does anyone know what’s up with the former meadowy area (now cleared) just east of Carlin Springs Road @ the W&OD? There used to be a desire trail thru there, and there was brief talk a while back about paving that trail. Since then I thought the idea was to leave it “as natural as possible”…and now it is clear cut. What’s next?

Well, it seems the bike advocates in Arlington mistakenly asked the County for the trail connection. Could have saved a year by asking Dominion.

Riding home on the MVT last night, I came up behind another cyclist at the northern airport bridge and waited to pass as usual since it is a blind corner. Another pair of cyclists pull up behind me waiting for a clear line of sight too. Then suddenly, a fifth cyclist starts passing us all just as a northbound cyclist comes flying around the blind corner. Luckily, everyone avoided each other but man, I don’t remember an uptick in jerk cyclists this time last year. But in the past few weeks, it seems some folks act just like bad drivers!

I think they shot the gap between me and an oncoming cyclist a bit further north (just south of the parking lot) with no call or apparent concern.

Disclaimer – I am pretty good with ADA but am no means an expert.

Section 206 of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Architectural Barriers Act Accessibility Guidelines don’t seem to provide an “unless inconvenient” exception.. 206.2.1 says “At least one accessible route shall be provided within the site from accessible parking spaces and accessible passenger loading zones; public streets and sidewalks; and public transportation stops to the accessible building or facility entrance they serve.”

I suppose the question for WMATA is “Can you describe the ADA/ABA compliant route from the ______________ at the ______________ station to the street?”

The WMATA website https://www.wmata.com/service/accessibility/metrorail.cfm says “All Metrorail stations and rail cars are accessible.”

BentBike is correct. From the NPS GWMP this evening:

“The work has not been completed.

The work that is discussed in this chain, that will require a temporary closure will happen on May 2.

The work that is being reported as done is actually the asphalt base.”
