Let me look at home. As part of the VVIL yard sale, I bought a Ultegra compact crankset as a “spare”. If you need it, it is available.

Check with NDU. When I was at McNair they seemed pretty accommodating of the students. Either the NDU campus or the base fitness center may have rental lockers you could store your slacks and shoes which would permit a weekly resupply.

But did you ask if he was doing OK? He likes that!

It is narrower than a normal staircase (not sure how that is allowed)

Section 311.7.1 of the International Residential Code (the building code in VA) says “Width. Stairways shall not be less than 36 inches (914 mm) in clear width at all points above the permitted handrail height and below the required headroom height. Handrails shall not project more than 4.5 inches (114 mm) on either side of the stairway and the minimum clear width of the stairway at and below the handrail height, including treads and landings, shall not be less than 31 1/2 inches (787 mm) where a handrail is installed on one side and 27 inches (698 mm) where handrails are provided on both sides.”

From the photo, it looked like it might seem confining because it might have been right at compliance. Narrow, long spaces look narrower.

That is rule 9a – if you drink beer in bad weather, you are a bad ass.

Thanks Judd. I poached much of your comments and sent them to my delegate in the state house.

Photo from my most recent ride. About 11 pm, nearly a Midnight Saddles ride.

The hill in the background is Denali

Note the bear spray in the water bottle cage. Might have some utility in the WashDC area, particularly with respect to cab drivers.

Who says the NPS can’t clear snow from trails? Photo from a friend riding in Rocky Mountain National Park.

Looking at the County’s tree preservation standards, trees seem to be treated better than peds and cyclists

Not only is a fence required to protect the trees, there is a county phone number to report violations.

Might be something that could be adopted to protect things other than trees, like you or me!

For the record, I like trees but I like me as much.
