Does anyone know if the trail connection across the 14th St. bridge is usable during the MCM? I’d like to ride up into the city to cheer a friend who’s running — ideally I’d get over to Hains Point somewhere.
Thanks —
It is usable. The marathon is run on the HOV bridge. You’ll have to be careful on the DC end because you’ll hit the course close by the ramp down from the bridge.

ParticipantI love this altogether, but it would make my day if it was about someone here.

For posterity in case it expires…
Quote:Dear random bicyclist,After almost running into you yesterday around 6 pm on a neighborhood street, I pulled over and spent a good 20 minutes pulling myself together and seriously questioning my own functionality.
You see, yesterday was a particularly difficult day, in the middle of a particularly long and stressful few weeks. Physically and emotionally exhausted, but not unable to stop and rest, I was in literal pain as I navigated unfamiliar streets on a new route toward school. Between looking for parking, annoyance at the asshole tailgating me, and my frazzled state, I completely missed you. I thought to pull over and let the guy behind me go by, but suddenly I had stopped and you were riding past me, looking rightfully outraged, your expression saying “What the bloody hell is wrong with you??”
Though my personal state had everything to do with my possibly erratic driving, there is no excuse for endangering the life of another. I’m not entirely sure what happened and how, but I surely was shaken.
So if you happen to see this, please accept my sincere apology. I imagine I must have really frightened you. I can’t change what happened, but I’ve been especially aware while driving since.
Yours,
G
ps– seriously, I’m really sorry about that, man

I’m selling some wheels that have been hanging in my shed for awhile. They’re nice (for alloy) and pretty light, but I don’t need them.

Argh. If these were XC279s we’d be talking. I have an urge to try this wide wheel thing.
Great wheels for a great price though.

Hm… yes. I’ll try to make it.

ParticipantI would think depending on where you are in Kensington, you can get to Beach Drive down to Jones Mill Road then turn on to the Georgetown Branch Trail to the Capital Crescent into Georgetown. The key would be getting to Beach. It also seems like you could take Kensington Pkwy to Jones Bridge/Connecticut then ride the sidewalk to get to the Georgetown Branch trail as well. I think there’s a commute in there somewhere…

By any chance are you tall with a long head tube? Jan at Bikekinetic showed me a trick where you install a cable housing end guide on the drilled out holes in your fork rather than at the top of the head tube. Origin 8 makes this product for about $10. With the cable end at the top of the headtube, the cable oscillates with the relative motion of the front wheel and frame, which adversely effects braking power. Lowering the cable housing end to the fork solves this.
I did the same recently, and between that a better set of canti brakes (TRP Euro-X) my cross bike has never braked so well. It also eliminates brake shudder.

ParticipantI thought that 10-speed Shimano road shifters wouldn’t work with 10-speed Shimano MTB derailleurs, but would work with 9-speed Shimano MTB derailleurs. Could be wrong though.

ParticipantI have never altered my course for a runner coming at me in a bike lane and I don’t intend to. I don’t pick a fight with them but I don’t give an inch either. If there were no sidewalks but there was a bike lane, that’s a different story, but I rarely ever see that.

Different states is okay, it’s different regions that Verizon didn’t like. VA-MD-DC are in the same region.
Florida must be in the same region…

Having an out of state phone number is pretty standard for DC. Mine is VA and the only reason my wife isn’t still on her number from law school is that Verizon wouldn’t let us get on a family plan with numbers from different regions.
I’m on a Verizon family plan with phone numbers from 3 different states…
