ParticipantI managed to miss it.
I love looking for stuff like this, but was heading out to dinner with the fam, and missed the time window. I like the website you linked to, though. I’ll need to keep tabs on it for other good viewing opportunities. Looks like pre-dawn AM hours on Sun, Nov 10 is the next best viewing opportunity. Might have to wake up early to go watch it.

I went though twice showing my Federal ID. No problems. But then again November 1 is this week and they could be waiting until then to start the new policy.
Of course, because if legitimate base security concerns really are the reason for the change in policy, it can easily wait a few weeks…

ParticipantBeautiful morning today. Lack of wind and perfect (in my book) temps made for arguably the best commute morning of the year, though chances are I’ll be thinking, if not saying, that a lot over the next few weeks.
In addition to the excellent conditions, Arlington PD made me smile this AM, too. As I rode up Potomac Avenue behind Potomac Yard shopping center, I was passed by a crossover SUV that I could tell was going well above the posted 25 mph speed limit and was also going much faster than the other cars in surrounding traffic. This type of speeding is a pretty common occurrence in my experience commuting along Potomac Ave.
My smile came from the fact that just over the bridge over 4MR at the intersection with S Glebe, the offending driver/car had been pulled over by Arlington Police. I’ll forgive them their trespass of the bike lane, which was, naturally, where the pulled over car was stopped. I do’t mind it if people go 30 in the 25 zone there, but the 35-40+ mph speeding has no place. Thanks ACPD!

ParticipantWhat I found annoying was the way they closed down Boundary Channel Drive on SATURDAY! And there were no signs anywhere to alert you to this, just a surly, dickish Pentagon cop playing bridge troll on the Pentagon side of the bridge from the LBJ Grove who hopped out and asked me where I was going with a lot of attitude as if I were committing some sort of crime just being there. He was just a total prick in his initial question and his dismissive nature during the rest of our exchange.
Had there been signs somewhere between the MVT and the Boundary Channel Drive side of that little bridge, I would have stopped and turned around. But there weren’t.

ParticipantI missed the giveaway… by the time I rolled through around 6, it was all closed up. I figured it probably would be.
Anyone know what happened with the officers that came by at 430 americancyclo mentioned above?

ParticipantThanks for the feedback. I’ll definitely check out your blog post, Pete.
Cheers.

While I didn’t feel strongly enough about it to mention it, I agree with your assessment. As happy as I was to see the folks out there representing last night, I did make a mental note as I was riding past that it probably wasn’t the most prudent spot to have people holding signs and yelling…
It could be worse. Just sayin’…

P.S.-I joined online today at lunchtime, so if you’re out again today and I ride past, don’t despair. I’m already a member.

CX bike! (n+1)
I have 35 front + 32 rear on my CX bike’s stock wheels right now for the wet leaf/transition season. Definitely helps on those road conditions (and with what’s going on along Westmoreland) And I recently checked and confirmed my 26″ front wheel with a studded tire also fits in my CX bike too (the rear one doesn’t).
Converted rigid MTB w/ drop bars and 2″ tires FTW!

I fully agree with taking that route. Though a bit longer, much more nice.
I already plan to incorporate it into tomorrow AM’s commute.

Turning left, left, left, left, and then bearing right works, too.
Just sayin’.I like it. Not for everyday use, but it’s an easy way to add an extra 1.3 miles to my commute on mornings when I feel so inclined. Why hadn’t I thought of that in my nearly five years of bike commuting past that spot almost every day?! Thanks!
On mornings when I don’t have the time or the inclination to ride an extra mile plus, I’d prefer not to have to maneuver around a$$hat Park Police officers’ cruisers parked in the spot where they’re most likely to be in the way of the orderly, legal flow of bike traffic.

OMG is this weather awesome for bike commuting. You all with longer commutes might think it’s a little cold, but these days when it’s just warm enough to wear shorts make me fell like a million bucks when I get to work.
Today’s weather was hands down the best bike commute weather since the spring. Shorts, tee shirt, fleece, and a pair of full fingered gloves, which I took off about 4 miles into the commute b/c my hands were starting to sweat. Mid-October through mid-November is my favorite time of year for commuting, so I am happy as a clam right now.
Couldn’t get the phone out in time to take a picture, but my morning commute was made complete by the spotting of a Sprinter style delivery van on the GW Parkway emblazened with a giant Shimano logo. (A Campagnolo or SRAM truck would have been equally cool; I’m not a hater).

Well done!
I have a much cruder version but I will exercise what little restraint I have and not post it here.
Does it involve transvaginal ultrasound probes on the saddles of all women’s bikes and a fear that if we allow gay marriage, next thing you know people will want to marry their bicycles?

Participant+1 on the shout-outs for Feedly and Crazy Guy on a Bike.
And thanks to everyone for opening my eyes to blogs I didn’t know were out there! I thought I was following most of the good ones, but I’m seeing ones I need to add to my Cycling section of Feedly feeds.
