Pretty sure that would be considered “off-putting” by my son. He’s a little like his father in that regard: bunch of 9-12 year-olds in team kit? Yeesh! 😮
Ya’ gotta jump in at some point and its only gonna get worse, so you might as well give it a shot now.

ParticipantLike consularrider mentioned, you and I have a very similar commute pattern. I’ve been trying to up my days for a little while now, I’ve found that it helps if I make sure that I JRA as often as possible and dont engage in any CAT6 racing. And then after that like is said above, just suck it up and deal. I managed -3- 5 day weeks last month, so far this month, its been 4 days.
I also ride on the weekends, but less so the more I ride during the week. I’m hoping to be able to get to the 5 day commute and a good solid weekend ride. Right now, I’m close, I just need to shut up and do it. :p oh and start going to bed a little earlier.

I just wanted to thank everyone for their great advice and feedback and if you any questions about the bike I’d be happy to answer them… I also got a new job, it is still in falls church though (next to the Fairview Marriott). So I’ll only be doing the current route for a few more weeks then I’ll have to figure out the best way to navigate the Fairview Park Dr/Route 50/495 mess.
Its not too bad to get there actually. There is a trail that runs into the back of it either from Providence Rec Center or from the end of Camp Alger Dr. The Rec center trail is shorter and in better condition, but you have to go directly past Falls Church High School, so depending on the timing of your commute it may be better to deal with the torn up trail than the parade of school buses, parents picking up/ dropping off, and teenage drivers going in and out of there.

You: out on your morning training ride, reeling me in getting ready to passSorry ’bout the snot rocket, maybe call your pass next time.
It did give me an idea for a jersey though.
Caution Snot Rocketeer! Draft at your own peril.

ParticipantRiding in flip flops or sandals really isnt any more dangerous than walking around the city in flip flops sandals. I did it for year as a ute, and I still do it now on occasions when running errands or out to dinner. I just think people as a rule need to back off a bit and let others make their own decisions.

I have the opposite commute. We probably pass each other twice each day.
I hit Va Ave in Falls Church headed west about 7:15, you probably pass me too.

Trying to leave Westover at 6:45-7 so I can get to work and shower. Takes me approx 50 minutes to get to Sunset Hills where I turn right to go to Business Center Dr.
Tomorrow if you have a bit of time, its Thursday morning CC at Caffe Amouri in Vienna, one block off the WOD.

ParticipantSo today I managed to leave a little early so I could JRA my way to work.
Coming into Vienna, I see a “regular” with his bike on the side of the trail, on the phone, I ask if he needs help. His Chain is broken. Let me see if I have a chain tool. I do. Five quick minutes of bike mechanic demo 101, the chain is fixed, WOD Trail Marshall got to stop and see others helping out riders, and he is on his way.
So back on my bike, feeling very Dirt-like I ride on.
One guy passes me, .oO(JRA,JRA,JRA) another guy passes me .oO(JRA,JRA,JRA) only he’s not going away like he should. I step it up just a little bit, he comes back to me. As soon as it starts to go uphill I ride around him and continue on.
As I clear the intersections, my “victim” manages to catch up and ride through (good deed #2).
Eventually, I manage to run down the first rider, and just ride right around him too. Now I’m pulling 2, and clearing intersections. All this, while I’m wearing my Bike Arlington Jersey.Yea Me!

Yeah I have two 500s and the older one does exactly that too, while the newer one is still fine. I had a KOM somewhere in the VA mountains “earned” the same way. Strava support will help you match segments that aren’t off by too much though, if you want the real segment marked up on the ride.
I’m not sure why unit life has an effect on accurate GPS tracking though.I’d go for a 510 or 810 as my next upgrade, probably. I mostly care about GPS accuracy/signal and battery life. Navigation is definitely nice to have but adds to cost, bulk and power consumption.
I did a full on factory reset on mine and it seemed to help a lot time to acquire satellites etc.
