ParticipantAt this point, I think I’ll be leaving from Luria Park in Falls Church (near Gallows & 495) then head down to the EFC metro stop and then turn west to Reston if anyone is interested in a leisurely tour of the stops between EFC and the RTC. I’ll probably end being late for work that day (at the office by 10).

ParticipantI love the Falls Church area. Its got access to 3 major highways and several secondary ones, so car travel is a breeze. Plus your essentially 1/2 way between DC, where my wife works and commutes to and Reston where I work and commute to. Both of use the WOD/custis as our primary route to work. Plus its got one of the best farmers markets in the area and it year round.

ParticipantMy wife and I are talking about doing this ride in May. Bit of the credit card touring. B&B’s dinner out etc. Bring only the cloths you need and the credit card. If you can put down a couple of 75 mile days early, you can do the whole thing in 5 days pretty easily and sleep in relative comfort from the looks of things. I will probably ride my Vaya with 42 mm tires and panniers, and my wife will ride her hybrid w/ 28’s and her camelback. Maybe a small trunk for the on the trail snacks.

ParticipantI bought a complete bike from competitive cyclist last year. It went really smoothly overall. I did have to touch up the build once it got here (true the rotors, adjust cable tensions, etc), but I didnt break it down completely by any stretch of the imagination. Size was good, and the geometry was comfortable too (touring bike). I’ve screwed up bike fits worse with the frame in front of me.

ParticipantI’ve always known it as the “Arlington Triangle”. Tho I have to admit I do like the “Arlington Beltway”.

ParticipantI went with the Garmin 800 for the navigation features. I really am not fond of having to pull out cue sheets and trying to read them while speeding down a hill, or in the pouring rain, or trying to figure out where you are 5 miles after you missed a turn. The nav feature on the 800 lets me pull routes from a bunch of different on-line resources and just head by myself anywhere. Little pricey, but really nice if you can swing it.

ParticipantFor jeans and the like, I hit it with spray and wash as soon as I can, than when I have some time I scrub it with a little “Dawn” dish washing detergent and a toothbrush.

I’m heading west. I usually see you somewhere between Vienna and Va Ave. Tall guy on an orange Salsa Vaya with 1 orange pannier.

ParticipantI see 2 or 3 regular commuters on track bikes on my commute. I just dont have the legs for it. Plus I’ve tried carrying a pack and it just messes with my back, panniers are a must for me.
I do ride a fixie every so often just to keep me humble, but I rock the front brake.
DCV- do you commute in on the WOD, from Vienna towards FC about 7:20 in the AM?? I see a guy who’s got 2 or 3 different *nice* track bikes that he uses as commuters.

ParticipantAnn- Dont worry. Hills are an acquired taste. You start to enjoy them more, the more you do them. It’s an odd evolution.
