ParticipantThis’ll be my last Third Thursday happy hour before our cross-country bike tour! I’ll be at Westover Beer Garden as early as work allows (probably won’t get there until 6pm though).

ParticipantI’ll be there (and bringing a friend)!

I live in Clarendon, so 15 miles each way. The closest gym I can find via google would add 1.5 miles west on the W&OD and 1.5 (slow, easy, non-sweat breaking?) miles back east. Not optimal.
Being a super-sweater, I’d really prefer to have a shower, esp. because I keep sweating for 10 minutes or so after I get off the bike. I already have a supply of showerpill/actionwipes, but not sure if I have a useful place to wait during cooldown. I also need to get a feel for the sink rinse and clean/dirty/wet clothes storage options.
I really don’t want to car commute, but a coworker on the project lives a few blocks away so at least we can carpool. Looking at the bus routes from Clarendon, I can’t seem to google map anything reasonable, I think the fairfax connector isn’t included in the public transit mapping. I’ll have to map it the old-fashioned way.
And if I end up having earlier core hours, I might take you up on the posse idea.

I have a 15-mile commute and I can’t imagine going into work after that without showering. Hope you find a good way to make the bike commute work for you. Try looking into doing something multi-modal, maybe? Bus + bike?

You’re still allowed to come to the happy hour. Bonus if you pretend you rode there.
I’ll make sure to get really sweaty on the bus and complain about the lack of bike parking. “I had to park my bike down the street!”

ParticipantMeant to bike to work today, but slept in too much (upstairs neighbors had family over and decided to play music all night).

Please advise: what is the best way to get from the W&OD east of the Custis to the Coffee Club II site?
From DC, my plan is cross the Key Bridge, get on Custis, left on Veitch, and right on Wilson Blvd. In my memory I associate Veitch with a hill, but can’t remember if that’s coming or going.

Who’s in for the second meeting of FCCII at JavaShack tomorrow morning, 7:30 am?
I’ll try to make it! This is a better stop for me (I’ll be less late to work) since I’m a reverse-commuter, so I can probably make it more often than DC’s Friday Coffee Club.

This is a bump up from cold and rainy Chicago. I’m looking forward to celebrating Spring (or summer?) with everyone! Despite pouring rain here, I saw a lot of cyclists downtown yesterday, as well as one awesome track stand.
Please try to let me know before Weds. if you plan to come to the happy hour so I can reserve enough outdoor table space and get good service for us. All are welcome!
I’m planning to be there, though probably more like 5:30/6pm.

Tough for me to get out the door before 8
I put on Sunblock this morning, but forgot to bring it for the afternoon. D’oh!
On most biking-all-the-way days, I have to be out the door by 6:30 or so to have time for a shower before getting to my desk. :p

ParticipantGood morning ride! Only hit by a few gnats (need to find my sunglasses). Remembered to bring sunblock along for the evening ride. Got to see some milling/paving work on Oak Street near Tysons.

Surly has this to say http://surlybikes.com/info_hole/spew/kickstands_on_long_haul_truckers
Ouch. Good to know. I did a little more reading online and it looks like kickstands and Surlys don’t like to play nice – without a mounting plate for a kickstand, it might be safer to forego it. Another said they bought the Pletscher kickstand but there wasn’t enough space to mount it on the Cross-Check.
I’ll just keep an eye out for walls, for now. Thanks everyone!

There were a lot of stragglers getting passed here and there, but I saw a paceline of about twenty Cat 2s and 3s cross a double yellow to go around a larger pack of about 75 cyclists riding three abreast. They must have been averaging about 27mph at that point.
Not sure if this is the same group you saw, but we were passed by a group of riders from District Velocity in blue kit somewhere on MacArthur. That route is often used by teams training on weekends, though.

ParticipantLooks great! I’m pretty sure I can make it. The Central Library is great – don’t think I’ve been to any of the others.

ParticipantThis is great timing, considering I lost one of my jacket pocket’s zipper pulls recently. It’s hard to take things out of your pocket when you have gloves on and no zipper pull.

Yessssss… Quite the army of Chris’s on here. I approve.
I’m Crystal. (Almost a “Chris”?) My Twitter handle happens to be the same as my forum name. I almost always ride a light blue Surly Cross-Check with a front pannier, but sometimes on a Capital Bikeshare or my gold vintage beater bike… which I’ll be selling soon. Random tidbit: I’ve never owned more than 2 bikes at a time.
