You are a sick man, Birru.
This is to give them exercise, not exploit them for your own gain!
Does it matter whether it’s kid powered or kid assist? If I have to pedal to make the kids go, versus having a kid throttle?

ParticipantCan e-bikes join in the jousting? How about Velomobiles? Will there be Pointless Prizes for confirmed jousts? (hint – yes there will — I will supply them, if this takes off!!)

ParticipantI think I need more seasonal hats. My commute has been many times better this week because I’ve been wearing a seasonally themed hat instead of my usual lid. I even think cars pay more attention. Not sure its better than when I put my seasonally themed accessories ~on~ my helmet, but it is easier.

ParticipantWell, to the chagrin of all involved, and even more so, my wife, I’ve signed up again. Shoot me now.

ParticipantSorry I’m so late chiming in. HHS makes it pretty easy. I had to cancel my transit benefit, and then apply for the bike subsidy. There was a slight hiccup because my supervisor had never heard of it, and it took her a couple of months to finally just approve my application. Then another 30 days to get enrolled. Then I didn’t get a check for 90 days, but they sent me 3 at once. Since then my $20 comes like clockwork. Both Bikenetic and Bikes@Vienna take them with no hassles. But: For me, 2 days a month of metro costs more than the bike subsidy brings in. So…. when I work really late or if the weather is terrible (ice and snow ) and I don’t want to just telework, there’s some serious disincentive for me to stick with that.
But… I’ve take metro for work / commuting purposes about 4 times this year, so…. maybe a non-issue.
There’s no paperwork drill or other hoops.

ParticipantSo — I work in the green zone, immediately adjacent to the red zone (3d and Independence, SW). My son goes to school in NE, well outside the exclusion area. He has school on Thursday, and it’s my day to drive. We can get there by going around the beltway, but… then I need to bike to the office. Anyone have any good ideas on getting from 14th and S. Dakota NE to 3d and Independence SW, given that 1) I won’t be able to cross the mall at all (so I need to go around the back side of the capitol) and 2) I’m assuming the area around Union Station/ the end of the MBT/1st NE PBL will be closed, too.
I’m also assuming that I’ll be able to bike in the green zone, but getting there will be challenging, given my office location.
It looks as though this might be an option, though I still need to figure out the end:
Any observations from the smarter-than-me people here?

Okay team captains/acting captains/people who took charge:
It has been 36 hours since Happy Hour. If there are people who should be on your team but have not joined your team’s Strava group, please let me know their forum name and I will get you contact info (“real” name, email, and strava ID number).
Happy teammate hunting!
Never mind – My team is at 100%

The only exception is ice. It’s totally legit to not ride because of ice. Unless you have studs, ice will mess you up.
However, it’s highly unusual for there to be ice for an entire 24 hour period. For example, I highly recommend the midnight 2 mile CaBi ride when they’re calling for snow in the morning.
I mean, sure – it’s foolhardy. If there’s a quarter of an inch of ice from freezing rain, then… best to stay in. Unless you’re on Team 22, in which case, lower that tire pressure, get out your ice-melt and go for it

ParticipantDumb question: Forum Names and Leaderboard names aren’t easy to cross check, as far as I can tell – am I missing something? I’m trying to make sure I capture all my teammates as efficiently as possible (so I can chain them to their bikes and let them ride pretty much non-stop from now until March 2X!)

I like it, although now we’re really venturing into “our team name only makes sense if you read this explanation”
You say that like it’s a bad thing! (Obscure references forever!)

Also, do people prefer email, forum, or Strava for communications?
While I use all three, I will admit that the forum is not my go-to. I find Strava or e-mail a bit easier to use, generally (but I will tend to try to use redundant means for all important communiques).

ParticipantSo — do you have any left after HH? I wasn’t smart enough/aware enough to actually pick some up tonight so I’ll choose the mail option. I just want to be sure there are some left before I paypal you the $$$ — I’d like 3 or 4 if possible
