The Daily Rider is the new shop opening on H St NE, but they are not yet open for business. Should be within a few weeks though, the exterior is looking pretty buttoned up and they’re advertising for employees.

THIS IS AWESOME. There were no DC dealers when I looked last week! I’ll just wait for The Daily Rider to open and go see if they’ll order me up an Acme. :)

Knowing Arlington, they’ll try to name it the Car-Free Beltway™

Have you tried asking the the police department directly for stepped up enforcement? I’ve had some decent luck with that in the past – maybe try shooting an email to police [at] arlingtonva.us? Worst case nothing happens right?

I have this pump and I love it. It’s light, it has a gauge, and it has an ingenious little foot pedal that folds out so you can sort of pump it like a normal floor pump. That said, the gauge isn’t super duper accurate, but it is close enough to get your in the right ball park and know you’re not way over-inflating. Did I mention it does both styles of valve and you can switch between them on the go?

Ack I sound like an advertisement.

Just wanted to chime in with a “this really works” – the request I put in at the end of June for bike racks by the Columbia Pike Sheraton was included in the 37 that just went in. So next time there is a “charrette” or other big community meeting at the Sheraton, we’ll actually have some legit bike parking. :)

I would love to see Arlington apply for this project – I’m willing to commit to being out there advocating with the rest of the community for why better bike infrastructure is good for everyone, whether you bike or not.

So many people would like to bike but don’t feel safe starting off with nothing (or nothing but paint) separating them from car traffic. I think some protected, separated infrastructure would allow a lot more people to get other there cycling and as they do so, they will become more comfortable biking in traffic and the net change will be more people biking on the roads, not less. I agree with the point Allen has been making a lot lately too, which is that more Bike Boulevards can help immensely in this pursuit as well (at significantly lower cost). Bike boulevards increase cycling visibility in the community and also create facilities that feel safe for new folks to ease-in with.

I scooted past the Walter Reed hill on my long run yesterday. Hoe-lee SHEET. I think I had a tiny embolism just looking up that incline.

That beast is on my daily commute home – I biked for 6 weeks before I finally made it to the top without getting off and walking. Now I don’t even drop to my smallest chainring.

I don’t know about the biking part, but next time you need spices you should check out Penzey’s. Their spices are so awesome they do a huge mail order and internet business and they are fairly convenient to the W&OD.

Yep, the sharrows South of Four Mile Run Dr (after the brief bike lane) are also installed right up next to the curb.

The Master Transportation plan calls for bike lanes or sharrows on George Mason Dr from Fairfax Dr to Lee Highway – I suspect they are just adding them as the various portions of GMD are up for repaving. So, basically, I believe the answer is “it’s a work in progress” but someone more in-the-know can probably chime in and tell you for sure.
