That’s too bad. Have you thought about using wire rope like the commercial bike repair stations? Aluminum ferrules require a swaging tool for installation, but even bolt-on rope clips would slow down most would-be thieves. Certainly more theft-proof than parachute cord.
Looks like I’m going to have to head this direction. The replacement tools didn’t last a week. Open to suggestions on the best method of attaching the wire rope to the body of the library. The screw-in eyes that I’m currently using can be easily unscrewed and the thief could just take the tools and wire rope all together home to detach at their leisure.

ParticipantNPS does not clear the Mt Vernon.*
NOVAParks snowblows the W&OD, eventually, but usually not until after it has become rutted and icy.
*NPS is perhaps, maybe, going to do some very targeted snow removal this season, but it will likely be just enough to get people from other plowed trails (like the Custis or the 27 Trail) to DC bridges, it won’ t be long stretches.

ParticipantPoint of clarification, should those desiring to slack:
1) e-mail/PM Sunyata AND fill out out the registration form?
2) just e-mail/PM Sunyata?
3) Some other thing that I missed in the giant rules discussion?November 20, 2017 at 7:45 pm in reply to: Arlington’s First Combination Little Free Library & Bike Repair Station #1078376chris_s

I hope someone really really needed that wrench and that you’ve made their Christmas come early.
Are you going to replace?
I hope the same. If they really needed them so badly that they felt like they needed to steal them, then I wish them well. If it was just malice then *insert angry face*.
Hoping to put in replacements before I head out of town for Thanksgiving.

ParticipantPlanning Commission did not include anything about the PBL in their recommendation.
The Board did not address the issue at the Board Meeting.
The Eads Street bike lane will stay exactly the way it is barring some future County engineering project that either makes it better or takes it out.November 20, 2017 at 5:08 am in reply to: Arlington’s First Combination Little Free Library & Bike Repair Station #1078344chris_s

ParticipantUnfortunately, my efforts at replacing you all with Skynet are not going very well.
Not so much.

Yes, double bollards, particularly to discourage trailers and wheelchairs.
Double bollards are super-extra awful.
Supposed to be an odd # of bollards, 6′ clearance between them and only after a documented history of motor vehicle intrusion.

The tax reform bill also eliminates parking benefits. It’s amazing how supposed bike advocates can be so easily swayed by eliminating very minor social engineering project. Bicycling commuting should not be subsidized independent of other commuting subsidies.
I believe you’re thinking of the House Bill. My understanding is the House version kills them all, the Senate version ONLY kills the bike benefit.

Totally unrelated to the Columbia Pike crash thread, but I’d be interested in the number of citations issued for parking in a bike lane.

Little-known fact, voting in Arlington makes your vote inherently “world-class”.

ParticipantA rep from LimeBikes was at Arlington’s BAC last night. He thinks the region could support 30 to 35,000 bikeshare bikes. As a point of comparison, Capital Bikeshare currently has 4,500. He wants you to not have to use the app to find a bike because you’ll walk out your door, look to the left, look to the right and see at least two bikes in plain sight. **boggle**
