ParticipantHi everybody! Champion_Tier on the Forum, but Phil to my friends and Stravaland.
First things first: Thanks to Greta Ann for volunteering to be our Team Captain!
This is my fourth Freezing Saddles and my second one overseas. I currently live in Germany having just moved here from Belgium this summer. Most of my miles are from commuting but I try to log some miles over the weekend as often as possible. I look forward to meeting you all virtually and following your adventures on the Strava (it’s always motivational). Most of all, I’m happy to meet more like-minded peeps from NOVA.
Happy riding!

Gee, too bad the Frankfurt Liaison Office is about to close. Only one WABA visitor in three years.
My occasional riding partner will be transferring to Brussels as of August and he may be looking for someone for an occasional easy ride. There’s a remote possibility of my visit there in the next three years.
Well I may have just jinxed myself — looks like the Belgium office may shut down this summer and another German office may open up. The timeline is still squishy but if your riding partner has any questions, etc. send ’em my way and I’ll try to help.

Glad to hear a little bit about all of you, and hoping we all have an injury-free, riding-heavy, rest of the winter. @championtier, we should definitely try to do something when you’re in the country. I didn’t realize you were in Belgium, that’s awesome! Have you been to any cross races, participating or just watching? @filipe, enjoy Portugal while you’re there. I still need to sleaze out in the snow over here.
Re: main forum of communication, I’m fine with Strava, email, this, Facebook, whatever. @Filipe, Strava sounds good to me. I’ll start a ride planning post over there, and see if I can get together some names.
It’s definitely nice here! I had one cross race that I was going to do but a work event got in the way; I haven’t found anything like BikeReg here so most of what I hear about is by word of mouth but I’d love to race next year. There’s a bunch of local events here for mountain biking and just general riding around. The trick is finding out about them
I’m good with using Strava to communicate. I love coming back to the forum from time to time, but Strava is a little more accessible, IMHO.
Happy riding!

ParticipantHi everybody! CT here. Special thanks up front to Josh for volunteering to lead TM18 (Name: TBD); great intro, btw!
I moved to Belgium last summer but wanted to add another year to my 2-year streak of BAFS participation. Thanks to the lovely folks who design the rules for this game, I was able to participate. Most of my miles are from commuting; however, on the weekends I tend to explore and do a lot of bike-orienteering around here and end up posting several photos on Strava from my rides. If you’re interested in seeing what Flanders has to offer, here’s the link to my account: https://www.strava.com/athletes/15179914
I think BAFS is a wonderful event and look forward to contributing to the team as much as possible. I don’t make it to the U.S. very often, but should be around the DC area from 22-24 JAN if there happens to be a team HH.
Best of luck to you as individual riders, to us as TM18, and thanks in advance for the motivation to keep on peddaling!
Cheers,
CTChampionTier
ParticipantLooking forward to BAFS 2K19!

Has anyone who uses the PBL at about the same time daily been checking the Bikeometer to see if usage has been increasing?
Nah, got my hands full trying to avoid pedestrians on the PBL

showing my age, when I carry that tune in my head (I must have used it as a ride title? If I didn’t I should have) I think of this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3nswy0LNsE
You know, no matter whether acoustic or electric/pop, that riff gets you right in the ribs…and that drum line keeping the feet in sync as they mash onward. Great Link LTOM!

ParticipantThis morning I trailed a rider and watched in stunned silence as the lion’s jaws of the Eisenhower connector nearly claimed him.
The rider, who was about 30 yards ahead of me merged right into the off-ramp of 495 without looking back to clear in an attempt to make a right turn onto Eisenhower. He missed being nailed from behind by a Subaru by what seemed like a few inches. The kicker: the rider had no idea how close he’d come to getting clobbered and pedaled along as he swung a wide right turn onto Eisenhower.
In the miles that followed I contemplated the age-old division between bravery and ignorant recklessness.

One of the many lines from this article that stood out as gold.

Here are the results and here are some photos. Looking forward to racing again tomorrow!
Man, seeing pictures of myself racing is the visual equivalent to hearing a recording of myself singing. In my mind, I imagine I look like a hyper-focused bad-ass but in reality I’m a hunched-over mouth breather whose knuckle dragging has been forestalled for 35 minutes by drop bars.
Thanks for the links, though!

ParticipantThis morning at the intersection of Mill Rd & Telegraph on-ramp. The one person I spoke to during my hour long commute in the dark, cold wind….
Me: Stopped at stop sign waiting for turning car to proceed
You: Guy in white car rolling down your window
Me: Hearing your window come down, quietly marshal defenses for what will undoubtedly be a terse verbal exchange about me and my bike slowing you down and just “who the hell do you think you are?”
You: Safe ride! Nice Bike! [gives thumbs up]
Me:…..Thanks!March 8, 2018 at 5:09 pm in reply to: Crosshairs Garage Races (Crystal City Wednesday Night Spins) #1085127ChampionTier
ParticipantResults from Night 1 Beginner Race (quality isn’t too great and the printout was a little garbled at the bottom). If anyone has a better copy that’d be great…
