Okay, so the survey results are in: people don’t like blinky lights on the trail. And it appears the vis360 blinks. So that one gets crossed off the list. Thanks, everyone.
LizFrom what I’ve read, it’s the front, bright blinky that everyone hates on a trail. I don’t think the majority of people care about a rear blinky, though there are probably a few that do.
What I like to do on trails is turn off my helmet vis360. I still have the cygolite on the bars, pointed downwardish and 2 solid reds in the back. When I go out on roads, I’ll leave the 2 solid reds on the rear but turn on my blinky-in-the-back vis360, leaving me with 2 front brights.

Yikes, I hope the paint they used isn’t slippery.
I’m not entirely sure they’re actually paint. They’re very thick, and seem to be stuck on rather than painted on, but I don’t really know for sure. They do, however, seem slick. I try to avoid them, I’m kind of neurotic like that when it comes to painted asphalt.

I will say I’m not thrilled with the stock fenders, though. They seem barely as wide as the tires and I still get some spray off the front wheel at least. Overall it’s a great bike and a huge upgrade from my Trek.
Those were the first things I replaced on my Bosanova. I put on a pair of planet bike plastic cheapies for now. For the front wheel, keep in mind that there is a disc brake up there and the hangars that come with most fenders are straight, they won’t fit. Greenbelt used the front rack mounts to mount his fender, which works unless you want a front rack. I recycled the front mount from the stock fenders to mount my planet bike fenders. It worked well enough.

Accidents are as much a function of traffic density as driving skill. If they controlled for that, it would be more accurate.
and, I would think, road engineering. The beltway in some places is a freakin nightmare. Add all the construction zones to that, it’s a bad mix.

ParticipantReally happy to read they keep the same friction as pavement. If I had seen that green “paint” in a bike lane, I would’ve probably gone around it. Paint in the road causes bulges to appear in the seat of my lycra shorts.

or just feel strange one day (achy hands, palpitations, blurred vision, whatever), get screened, do a stress test, get an echo.
I definitely felt had some blurred vision later that evening, but that could’ve been the wine.
Actually had a full heart work-up last year, including an ECG, got a clean bill of health, mostly. Was told to stop drinking so much coffee, lose weight, and exercise more. I’ve done 2 of 3.

Just to be clear, does the rear light on the vis360 only operate in blinking mode? Is there no steady mode?
The front light has 3 modes, bright, not-as-bright, and blinky. The rear only blinks.

ParticipantGreenbelt, want to borrow some disc brake grease?

Participantthe default max HR on strava is 150 or something I guess. I fixed it using this formula
- MHR = 206.9 – (0.67 x age)
from http://www.brianmac.co.uk/maxhr.htm
now I’m not worried my heart is going to burst (well, I still am, but only on hills)

Few will care by then, if they do at all right now.
I think this is a good example of how the “general non-cycling public” feels. I didn’t really think about this statement much when I wrote it. Like I said above, I never followed cycling super closely, other than passing interest in the TdF for a year or two at Lance’s peak. Reading some of the opinions (mostly strong ones, as posted above) is making me seriously re-consider my opinion.
At least one thing will definitely come of this, I think there is going to be some (more) serious effort to “clean up” cycling.

ParticipantWhat do you think about the rest of the peloton though? Are they all just as guilty? Not trying to start anything, honestly interested. I never really followed TDF all that closely (gasp!)

So cheap I’ll buy your first, after 60 miles you’ll deserve it!
Well, I’ll only be at 40 or so when I show up. The other 20 is the ride home to Bethesda, which I might only do 10 to Metro center again lol

Post your route, I’d love to see if we passed each other at some point
(I’m scary looking, but not quite what my avatar is. Beard, yellow shirt, lights and reflectiveness plastered all over me)
oh, Metro doesn’t allow bikes until after 7pm, so remember that for going home. Look in to bus routes for possible distance reductions. I use an express from New Carrollton Metro to Bowie to cut off about 10 miles from what would be a 30 mile commute.

I’m really curious about this. I never use blinking lights on the trail, because it drives my nuts when other cyclists do—
Unfortunately, my Vis360 on my helmet doesn’t appear to be able to NOT blink (rear). Sorry. I have 2 other rear tail lights that I set to solid. I figure the combination probably helps out (I hope). Someone mentioned yesterday that blinking lights are hard to get a depth perception fix on, so I figure if I have blinking, non-blinking, and reflective tape plastered all over me I should be good. Now, off to GuyContinental’s house for that reflective tape (1 roll GuyC, 1 roll only).
