I have challenge fatigue. I do like the Skratch Labs mixes, though. Laurie talked with Allen Lim at Interbike today.
yeah, the skratch labs is a lot easier on my stomach. I was using Heed hammer stuff, but that caused…… distress. The skratch labs doesn’t cause it so much, only if I drink too many bottles of it, so I just keep it to 1 bottle of that and then regular water.

ParticipantIt was not a bad day for riding after all, if you went at the right times. I could see the worst of it was gone around 5:30, so headed on out instead of waiting until 6. I was wetter from sweat than any type of rain falling. The one big deal that came from the storm is the branches, they were down all over the place on Sligo Creek Trail. Combined with the darkness, it was much slower going than normal, but safe!

ParticipantYeah, that wasn’t much to get worked up over. I feel like a ninny, but at least I rode in and faced my potential fear! (did I mention how much lightning scares me?)

ParticipantYeah, I’ve decided to leave work an hour later (6pm). My ride->bus->New Carrollton should be safe enough, then if it’s real bad I can relax for 15-20 minutes before hopping Metro if it’s really ugly out.
I thought it was supposed to rain all day long though, and I’ve hardly seen any.

SHELTER IN PLACE!
I recommend a place with beer and sausages.
I actually scouted my route via Google last week for good beer spots on hot days where I needed a recharge. My options are extremely limited, I’m sad to say

It actually applies to most of the counties from central North Carolina up to the PA line, so it includes the entire DC area. For now the watch is until 7pm but they could cancel it early.
I need to get one of these great weather sites you all use bookmarked and open at all times. I figured it was much more wide spread than just MoCo, but MoCo has an awesome “411-911” text messaging system that I was quoting. It’s pretty cool, I don’t know if other counties have it, but I get alerts on all kinds of emergency situations; weather, road closures, accidents, etc.

ParticipantWell, I rode, so I’m stuck with it. If it’s really bad, I can catch various buses around where I need to get, but that is very slow. If things are way too bad, I’ll hide until 7pm and hop a metro train.

Awesome name, expect ire from the blinded Kongs
I was all excited too, until I googled it and found out they’re “Knog”, not “Kong”. Now I don’t want one.

There are other transit systems that don’t allow bikes at any time. We’ve been all over this issue before, and I’m still fairly convinced that inviting bikes during rush hours would just end up in someone dead in some of the stations with overcrowded platforms. (The response that some stations/lines/directions aren’t crowded is relevant only if metro were capable of enforcing a rule requiring that much judgement, and people never tried to bend a safety rule for their personal convenience.)
oh yeah, the many dead passengers on the NYC subway, right, forgot about those.
They’ve even licensed some folding bikes since those don’t cause deaths

ParticipantYeah, sounds like Ray was doing all that, and got hit. I understand his point. I guess I’m just maybe “hyper-aware”, in my case. I *always* expect the driver doesn’t see me and is going to hit me.
as far as helmets go, I always wear mine. I always did on my motorcycle too, and I’ve been riding motorcycles since the ripe old age of 4. As far as the laws go, however, I don’t like laws that tell people how to live (or die). I get that healthcare costs are driven up by un-insured (or even insured) people who don’t protect themselves and end up in accidents, costing taxpayers a lot of money. I just still don’t like laws telling me what to do. So, toss my vote in the “wear one, but don’t make me” ring.
