ParticipantThese are really cool, but at $250? Not THAT cool. I’m sure I spend that much money a month on mocha lattes, but I definitely won’t give up my lattes for a month for these. Hell no.

Participantoh! actually, the support site and knowledge base is up and running fine:
https://strava.zendesk.com/forumsI don’t know exactly where, but the info on how to send them a bad file is on there somewhere

ParticipantWhen strava is back up, you can contact them. I forget the email address, but if you send them a bad file they will try to repair it for you.

I had to do my commute twice today. I forgot my laptop, and I can’t really do anything constructive without it. I would have worked at home, but there are only three of us on the team – one on vacation drinking beer in Germany, and one at home with a 5 day old baby. So it’s just me.
Oh, woe is me, I had to bike to work twice. And home once already. Woe, woe is me. Truly a tragedy.
5 day old? Their eyes are open at that point, right? He can’t leave a bowl of milk out for it? That guy should’ve gone in

ParticipantI saw quite a few piles of leaves on the side of the road/trails as well. Even more dangerous are the various items hidden in those piles of leaves, I saw some glass bottles in one.

iii) I really don’t have a third thing to say, but just wanted to type a bit more since I’m starting to get used to typing with Frankenfinger again after almost a month of typing using only her 9 siblings.
Good luck,
Pete.
I knew there was a reason why you weren’t typing as profusely as usual, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on it. Did’git get better now?

ParticipantI heard the rain/cold was coming in this Saturday sometime, possibly later evening, but they couldn’t be sure until it was closer to the weekend.

ParticipantThis is what I have:
http://safetycentral.com/cysespbysamo.html
It has a velcro band that goes around my top bar rather well, but it could go other places I’m sure. There is a tight velcro band around the bottle, then velcro pieces stick the bands together. So it’s an easy grab for the bottle to have it ready to fire. I even have it with me when I ride the Metro or Metrobus, though I usually tuck it in my pocket.
There are various laws surrounding even mace. Specifically for Montgomery County, MD (and a few other counties, but not all) you can carry as a reasonable precaution against apprehended danger. I guess they wanted a specific law making it illegal to use mace while committing a crime, so now even just carrying it is not legal unless you can convey that you’re justified in carrying it. Though I’ve never been even questioned about it, my reasoning is that I’ve been chased by dogs while cycling before, so that’s why I carry it, officer. If you’re female and cycling on the trails in the evenings, I’m sure it would be even easier to convey your fear of apprehended danger.
You can see it in this picture, right in front of my seatpost, so I can grab it easily and quickly.
26AUG12 004 by certifried, on Flickrthere was a story last year in MoCo about a woman who used mace to fend off an attacker.

ParticipantOther than swallowing a lot of gnats earlier in the year, the only other wildlife I’ve executed was a bird that got blendered in my front wheel. I would guess, other than making sure it was quick and as painless as possible, you’d want to make sure the trail was clear of the body.

ParticipantIt seems there were a lot of people out around the Potomac yesterday. I think I saw Dirt post some pix of the C&O up around Great Falls which is, coincidentally, where I was yesterday with a work colleague. We were supposed to do an ~80 mile ride, but he’d ridden 60 on Saturday. That’s about 2x as much as he rode the entire month, so I cut him some slack and forced him to do 20. Does walking up all the hills count? He might not get as much credit as I did for the ride LOL (Rule #5 Jason!).
this entire week for me is filled with appointments and meetings. I’ll get 1 bike commute day
Going to have to really put some time in the evenings and long weekend rides to get that beer stein! Or maybe I can borrow some Garmin files that you won’t need, Rod? LOL

Your 800 has much better battery life and is Ant+, so if you ever decide to go for longer rides or get a power meter, it would have those advantages. Also, the built in barometer is much more accurate than the phone, if that kind of thing matters to you.
the 800 is also extremely durable, whereas my phone would get destroyed in any kind of a crash (knock on wood that doesn’t happen). The baggie over a phone is also a pain in the butt, it works OK until you throw full fingered gloves in to the mix. The garmin seems to do well with full fingered gloves. So, in the end, the garmin is definitely a better option. It just annoys me that I paid so much for it and the features I wanted most vs. a cell phone are unreliable.
