The editing software I’m using for PC (Camtasia) is slightly more expensive than the camera. Works well for me so far, though.
Thanks. I’m on a Mac and have both Final Cut Studio and Adobe Premiere (one of the perks of doing what I do) so software isn’t the issue… although knowing how to use it will be a bit of a learning curve!!

Well, I’m not aware of any rain this afternoon.
Umm, I must have imagined all that then
Sure rained where I was.

Participantacc, If fenders for 28mm down will fit I have a set of SKS’s that I’ll never ever use You’re more than welcome to them. . I’m a mud stripe up the back kinda guy (weight weenie)
And as to the storms… I’m NEVER comfortable on the W&OD with all the giant lightning rods every couple hundred feet. But I do it anyway…

ParticipantGreenbelt,
I just picked up a GoPro HD. If I may ask, what resolution did you shoot these in? My first run at 1080 and it was a 1gb file in 10 minutes.. don’t think they make SD cards big enough!CCrew

Bit pricey, and a bit out of town, but look like they have what you need in one place.

Wondering if others have had the same issue or have been successful in bringing the benefit to their office.
Has been an epic fail trying to get it at my office.

I don’t ride much in DC, but of the CaBi riders I see on the Mt Vernon Trail, about half have helments, only slightly less than the percentage of what appear to be casual, non-CaBi riders I see on a busy day. Same with the use of ear buds.
Same here. Since my office is on the 15th st cycletrack, I see a LOT of CaBi bikers. I’d have to agree with consularrider’s averages, which are pretty close to the non-CaBi riders I see also.

Title 36 CFR Compendium- George Washington Memorial Parkway (from Page 11 dated 11-06-2007)
4.30(a) Bicylcing is prohibited in the following areas:
…
The George Washington Memorial Parkway from Mt. Vernon Circle to Interstate 495
The Clara Barton Parkway from Chain Bridge to MacArthur Boulevardhttp://www.nps.gov/gwmp/parkmgmt/upload/Compendium.2007-11-06.pdf
It’s too bad because it’s really a nice ride on a Sunday morning coming back from Mt Vernon to Alexandria and I understand the same is true on Clara Barton.
If that’s a cut/paste from the code is it not enforceable because they can’t spell “Bicycling”? LOL

ParticipantGotta love it don’t you? Some real tools out there.
I do a bi-modal commute car from Winchester to Reston then bike to downtown DC.
Mine was the one at 2:15 this morning wearing jeans and a dark tshirt, no lights, no reflectors no helmet riding his MTB down the right lane on Rt 7 in Sterling when I was inbound. Almost turned him into a hood ornament.

I don’t quite get the idea of relying on CaBi as a part of daily commuting. All it takes is a small number of people in proximity to get the same idea to make it impossible (as has apparently been made clear today). It’s like signing up for ZipCar and expecting to use it to drive to and from work every day.
I do think they could improve ubiquity and balancing, but I don’t think meeting the needs of daily commuters should be the target.
I don’t know I agree with this. For the urban dweller that doesn’t choose to lug a bike up a hi-rise or doesn’t want to deal with the cost or technicalities of maintenance it’s a great idea. Flawed obviously but it sounds like CaBi is a victim of it’s own success which we should all benefit from.
This of course from a person that has access to a fleet of zipcar’s if I should need one that’s behind a locked gate with a guard to keep the riff-raff away from them

Sweet! There’s a century out of Cumberland in August that I did last year. I took the day off the day before to ride down to the Paw Paw tunnel on the cross bike the day before. If I do it again this year, I’m definitely heading up the GAP.
You”ll enjoy it. the 22 mi grind up and out of Cumberland gets a bit tedious, but hitting the Big Savage tunnel and the Continental divide make it worth it. Go a bit further north toward Meyersdale and the windmill farms area and the viaducts are cool too.
Coming back that 22mi downhill is nothing short of sweet!

Today highlighted the ineptitude of Capital Bikeshare. There wasn’t a dock to be had in a mile radius of 14th and G. A horde of bicylists circled around four stations for thirty minutes. I finally gave up and docked a mile away. Needless to say I was 45 minutes late for work.
I am cancelling my membership and buying a folding bike (I commute by train).
Sounds familiar. Was just talking yesterday with a guy in my office that said he’s giving up on them because there’s either none available to rent near him nor a place to dock one that’s available when he gets here.

. It’s supposed be crushed limestone. It’s a better surface than the C&O, but still not paved.
.Oh, it’s in much better shape than the C&O. “Beat up” would not an issue on the GAP, although I’d still stay away from narrow road tires just for the comfort factor. I intend to run it on my Salsa Vaya with 38’s and pulling a BOB trailer. Have run it on my Cross bike with 32’s on it and was about like riding on the road.

ParticipantI’ll be running it week of the 16th (May). Starting in Pittsburgh and running it south.
Oh, and Dirt… the 60 miles from Ohiopyle to Big Savage is this annoying, constant 1-1.5% uphill grade the whole fricking way….Far from all downhill!
The 22 miles of downhill into Cumberland almost makes up for it however…
