Visiting Family of 5 seeks bikes!

Hi there,

We are a family of 5 – two adults, 10yo girl, 7yo girl, and 1.5yo boy – who will be visiting WDC May 20-24. We are a biking family from Portland, OR. We are hoping to participate May 22nd’s ride around town. Suggestions on where we can borrow/procure bikes for the kids – 24in and 20in? It would also be nice to rent a bike with a bobike seat, but I would be ok riding with the little one in our Ergo with his Ergo.

Awesome – glad to hear you’ll be joining us! The Bike DC site suggests renting from Bike and Roll, but they don’t have kid sets (just trailers) and that could get pricey quick.

Let me check when I get home — I can’t remember what size my son is in now, but if it’s a 24″, you are welcome to borrow it. He is going camping that weekend and can’t participate.

As long as she doesn’t mind a black and red mountain bike.

According to their website, Bike and Roll has kids bikes for ages 6 -9 and 8-12. http://www.bikethesites.com/Bikes/ It says they are available at the downtown DC and Alexandria, VA locations.

As mentioned above, there are also trailers available for the little one.

The weather is supposed to be really nice for the Bike DC event on Sunday. I don’t have any tips on renting bike or bike trailers, but I’ll suggest bringing some extra water bottles and maybe even sunscreen. I hope your family has an enjoyable time at Bike DC.
